JOB TITLE: Volunteer & Community Enganement Coordinator

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for cultivating meaningful volunteer relationships, coordinating volunteer engagement across programs and special events, and planning and executing community-focused events and campaigns. This role also strengthens community and corporate partnerships that support Eastern Illinois Foodbank’s mission and serves as a key connector between volunteers, corporate partners, community stakeholders, and internal teams, ensuring positive experiences that deepen engagement and support fundraising and awareness goals.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteer Engagement & Management

  • Cultivate volunteer relationships and proactively identify opportunities for increased engagement and retention
  • Serve as the primary host at food repackaging and volunteer events, ensuring a welcoming, hospitable, and positive experience
  • Coordinate volunteer needs for special events and ongoing programs
  • Work with operations staff to identify and develop volunteer opportunities that support Foodbank programs and logistics
  • Maintain volunteer best-practice policies and procedures
  • Oversee volunteer intake processes to ensure accurate data collection and compliance with internal standards
  • Generate and distribute a monthly volunteer newsletter

Community Outreach & Advocacy

  • Participate in community events and speaking engagements to recruit volunteers and educate the public about volunteer opportunities
  • Serve as the primary contact for Eastern Illinois Foodbank’s involvement in external community events
  • Represent Eastern Illinois Foodbank at events and engagements as directed

Development, Corporate Engagement & Events

  • Work with the Development team to plan and execute special events and campaigns
  • Identify volunteers with the capacity and interest to financially support the Foodbank
  • Develop and implement volunteer and donor cultivation strategies and maintain a portfolio of volunteer and donor prospects
  • Facilitate event sponsorships and foster corporate donor relationships
  • Assist in donor recognition efforts in collaboration with the Development team
  • Serve as a Development representative at volunteer and community events as needed Administrative & Operational Support
  • Manage inventory of promotional and outreach materials
  • Maintain accurate records related to volunteer engagement, community events, and partnerships

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Eastern Illinois Foodbank.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Competencies, Education and Experience:

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks Non-profit experience is a plus
  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience and/or education in hospitality, event management, customer service, business, or related field
  • Strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, social media and database systems
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, in addition to public speaking skills
  • Creativity and thoughtfulness in problem solving
  • Accountability and autonomy in decision-making
  • Ability to work independently in a team-based environment
  • Ability to work with diverse populations

EXPECTED HOURS TO WORK:

This role is considered full-time exempt and is not eligible for overtime. Work schedule is from Monday thru Friday as scheduled with occasional weekend and evening hours. Personal transportation is required for all weekend and evening events.
