Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) / Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) supports daily operations within a urology clinic by providing administrative and direct patient care assistance to providers and nursing staff. Responsibilities include rooming patients, collecting medical histories, assisting with urologic procedures and treatments, coordinating patient care, managing documentation, and ensuring efficient clinic workflow and high-quality patient service.

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients: collecting pertinent information regarding the patient’s chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation upon arrival for a patient visit
  • Completing necessary telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other healthcare facilities as directed
  • Gathering and maintaining patient information via telephone per department-specific processes and policies
  • Performing administrative tasks including patient check-in/check-out, prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, verification of benefits, and coordination of referrals and testing
  • Performing office procedures as directed and per department-specific competencies
  • Performing procedures such as urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture or staple removal, application or removal of casts at the direction of a provider
  • Reading results of negative TB skin tests or directing patients to department nursing staff when TB screening indicates a possible positive result
  • Performing additional diagnostic testing at the point of care
  • Providing patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, or follow-up care at the direction of the provider
  • Retrieving and providing condition-specific education materials from approved sources per provider directions and orders
  • Administering medications per provider order
  • Assisting with prescription medication refills per department protocols
  • Calling medications into pharmacies, notifying patients of refills, and documenting actions within the EMR per provider orders
  • Maintaining department-specific competencies related to point-of-care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training
  • Assisting physicians with office-based procedures, including appropriate documentation
  • Performing suture and/or staple removal under the direction of the RN
  • Collecting and processing patient specimens correctly
  • Entering patient medical history and medication reconciliation into each patient’s medical record
  • Performing simple urinary catheter changes under the direction of the RN, APP, or MD after competency verification and documentation
  • Administering injections within the CMA scope of practice under the direction of the MD

  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AMT) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (ARMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (AAH) – American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED
  • Work Experience: Relevant medical assistant or healthcare experience preferred

Salary Range

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
