Overview
Responsibilities
- Verify patient information by interviewing patients, reviewing and/or recording medical history, taking vital signs, and confirming reason for visit or treatment.
- Support patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations.
- Prepare laboratory specimens.
- Dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Prepare patients for and take 2D and 3D imaging.
- Remove sutures.
- Keep medical and office equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns.
- Maintain supplies and perform preventive maintenance.
- Call for repairs when needed.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to organizational standards, policies, and legal regulations.
- Alert others regarding potential concerns.
- Maintain patient confidence and protect medical office operations by keeping information confidential.
- Caution others regarding potential confidentiality breaches.
- Improve medical assisting knowledge by attending training sessions and reading technical publications.
- Contribute to medical office success by welcoming new requests and helping others accomplish job results.
- Ensure charges are captured on services delivered.
- Clean equipment, chairs, and rooms between patients.
- Replace and restock supplies and linen.
- Take and record vital signs.
- Recognize variances from normal and communicate concerns to RN or provider.
- Prepare patients for 2D and 3D imaging.
- Perform digital imaging.
Qualifications
Certifications:
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health (AAH)
- Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Education: High School Diploma/GED (Required)
- Work Experience: Medical Assistant
