Overview

The Medical Assistant maintains department patient care supplies, ensures timely flow of patients, and assists physicians and nurses to provide optimal care to patients and families.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information by interviewing patients, reviewing and/or recording medical history, taking vital signs, and confirming reason for visit or treatment.
  • Support patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations.
  • Prepare laboratory specimens.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Prepare patients for and take 2D and 3D imaging.
  • Remove sutures.
  • Keep medical and office equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns.
  • Maintain supplies and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Call for repairs when needed.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to organizational standards, policies, and legal regulations.
  • Alert others regarding potential concerns.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protect medical office operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Caution others regarding potential confidentiality breaches.
  • Improve medical assisting knowledge by attending training sessions and reading technical publications.
  • Contribute to medical office success by welcoming new requests and helping others accomplish job results.
  • Ensure charges are captured on services delivered.
  • Clean equipment, chairs, and rooms between patients.
  • Replace and restock supplies and linen.
  • Take and record vital signs.
  • Recognize variances from normal and communicate concerns to RN or provider.
  • Prepare patients for 2D and 3D imaging.
  • Perform digital imaging.

Certifications:

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED (Required)
  • Work Experience: Medical Assistant

Salary Range

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
