Overview
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) / Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) plays an essential role in our Convenient Care team by performing routine administrative and patient‑care support duties that help our medical and nursing staff deliver exceptional care; you’ll assist with patient examinations and treatments, support smooth daily operations, and contribute to a welcoming, efficient environment where patients feel supported and providers can focus on delivering high‑quality care.
Responsibilities
- Rooming patients: collect chief complaint, vital signs, and complete medication reconciliation
- Conduct telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and other facilities as directed
- Gather and maintain patient information via telephone per department processes and policies
- Perform administrative tasks such as prior authorizations, scheduling, benefits verification, and coordinating referrals/testing
- Carry out office procedures per department competencies
- Perform procedures including suture/staple removal, one‑step splint application/removal, reading negative TB tests, and directing patients to nursing staff when indicated
- Provide written instructions for procedures, medications, and follow‑up per provider direction
- Retrieve and provide condition‑specific education materials per provider orders
- Administer adult and pediatric medications per provider order
- Assist with prescription refills per department protocols
- Call medications into pharmacies, notify patients of refills, and document actions in the EMR
- Maintain competencies in point‑of‑care testing, equipment handling, and specialty training
- Obtain vitals and collect data for provider visits
- Perform waiting room and exam room rounding
- Assist providers with procedures
- Perform procedures including EKGs, ear washes, vision screening, dressing changes, wound care, suture/staple removal, point‑of‑care testing, and splint application
- Clean, prepare, and sterilize instruments as appropriate
- Collect and process specimens correctly
- Serve as a member of the code team
- Administer adult and pediatric medications via intramuscular, subcutaneous, inhalation, and oral routes
- Apply and charge for durable medical equipment as appropriate
- Perform any additional duties that support the organization’s vision and values
Qualifications
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health (AAH)
- Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
