Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, supportive, and efficient environment for children and their families. This position provides compassionate clinical and administrative support to pediatric providers, assisting with examinations, treatments, and daily clinic operations. With a focus on patience, communication, and child‑friendly care, the CMA/RMA helps ensure smooth workflow while contributing to a positive, reassuring experience for every patient who walks through the door.

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients and collecting chief complaint, family/social/surgical history, and completing medication reconciliation
  • Completing telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities
  • Gathering and maintaining patient information via telephone per department policies
  • Performing administrative tasks: check‑in/check‑out, prior authorizations, scheduling, benefits verification, referrals, and testing coordination
  • Assisting with office procedures per department competencies
  • Performing procedures such as urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, and cast application/removal
  • Reading negative TB skin test results or directing patients to nursing staff when results appear positive
  • Providing written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow‑up per provider direction
  • Retrieving and providing condition‑specific patient education per provider orders
  • Administering medications per provider order
  • Assisting with prescription refills per department protocols
  • Calling medications into pharmacies, notifying patients of refills, and documenting in the EMR
  • Maintaining competencies in point‑of‑care testing, equipment handling, and specialty skills
  • Updating and maintaining department registries
  • Collecting and processing specimens accurately
  • Obtaining and recording vital signs
  • Performing injections (IM, SQ) within scope

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health (AAH)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

Salary Range

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
