The Electrical Inspector is an hourly, full-time, and non-exempt position, within the Village’s Community and Economic Development Department, which reports to the Building Safety Supervisor. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for the work, a positive internal and external customer service attitude, adaptability, and an ability to understand and balance competing priorities.

The Electrical Inspector applies their knowledge of codes and related laws to perform plan reviews and field inspections of residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with adopted building and electrical codes. This employee also inspects projects during various phases of construction, alteration, or repair for compliance with building codes and conformity with approved plans. This position will also be assigned enforcement of other Village codes as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED).

• Four (4) years of experience in general construction of electrical systems.

• Must possess, and subsequently maintain, a valid Illinois Driver's License.

• ICC Residential Electrical Inspector certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.

• Equivalent combination of education, experience, licensure, and training which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• More than four (4) years of experience as a journeyman electrician or electrical contractor.

• ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector Certification.

• ICC Residential Building Inspector Certification.

• ICC Commercial Building Inspector Certification.

Compensation and Benefit Package

This position offers an hourly wage range between $21.57 – $27.00, depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, the Village offers free individual membership to the Village’s Recreation Center and offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation; sick leave; holiday pay; individual life insurance; 100% employer-paid employee health, dental, and vision insurance (employee pays 50% for dependents); and enrollment in IMRF. Village residency is preferred but not required.
