JOB INFORMATION

Rantoul offers an emerging economy with an established industrial park and commercial opportunities a diverse educational experience a downtown staged for redevelopment a 65-acre sports complex and focus on health and wellness with numerous outdoor and indoor recreational amenities.The Village of Rantoul is hiring for a full-time Utility Clerk. The Utility Clerk performs a variety of duties in the preparation of utility bills and the receipt and posting of payments; receives and responds to customer complaints and/or request for services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of general office experience
- Effectively communicate with the public and staff in a professional manner
- Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Proficiency in typing, data entry, filing, and basic math
- At least one year of experience in money handling and credit card processing
REQUIREMENTS

- Prepare and maintain a variety of files and records

- Critical thinking, confidentiality, and discretion
- Sort, code, order, and prepare material for billing purposes
- Perform incidental typing of forms and records
- Learn our equipment, components, and processes of our billing system
- Perform clerical processing and record preparations
- Attention to detail
- Provide excellent customer service over the phone and in person
- Effectively respond to customers complaints and problems
- Excellent data entry skills
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE JOB
- Daily processing of payments for utilities, storm drainage tax, rental registrations, building permits, and parking tickets
- Balance drawers on a daily basis
- Research and enter readings into the Yukon system, as needed
- Check for inconsistencies, create work orders as needed, and adjust accounts as needed
- Process bills, check for discrepancies, and send information to Dataprose for printing and mailing
- Answer phone calls in a professional manner
- Process disconnections notices, ask Public Works department to disconnect service, notify landlords about disconnection, help customers with their final bill, as applicable
- Set up services for new customers, transfer services, set up budget billing, monitor balances, set up payment and auto pay arrangements, contact customer, as needed
- Work with LIHEAP on qualifying accounts, communicate with them regarding changes, payments, or disconnections, and enter customers pledge into the system
- File paperwork and enter data into the system

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The selected applicant will be required to live within a 20 mile radius of the corporate limits of Rantoul within six months after the completion of a six-month probationary term. The salary is commensurate with experience. Position will stay open until filled.
