Rantoul offers an emerging economy with an established industrial park and commercial opportunities a diverse educational experience a downtown staged for redevelopment a 75+ acre sports complex and focus on health and wellness with numerous outdoor and indoor recreational amenities.The Village of Rantoul is seeking to hire a full-time Gas Systems Technicians in our Public Works Department. The Gas Systems Tech under Chief of Operations direction forms coordinates plans installs troubleshoots repairs and maintains the Village of Rantoul's natural gas distribution system.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge street locations and geography of the village
- Knowledge of commercial arithmetic
- Valid driver’s license
- Extensive knowledge of the tools; methods; procedures; and materials used in the gas trade
- Extensive knowledge of gas systems and related components
- Ability to be qualified as a gas system operator under the ICC requirements
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of BOCA and NFPA 54
REQUIREMENTS
- Properly investigate gas leaks and the knowledge to make conditions safe
- Ability to train; follow; and qualify employees on techniques; policies; procedures; and equipment operation
- Maintain and submit all requisite records; logs; and files
- Requires ability to remain current on changes in materials; procedures; and technology pertinent to the gas trade
- Skillfully operate the tools and equipment used in gas testing and gas system repairs
- Install; maintain; and repair the components of the gas system
- Ability to read; interpret and work from drawings; sketches and plans
- Respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day and on weekends
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Work independently and/or as a team
- Work during inclement weather conditions and perform manual labor
- Ability to establish and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with co-workers and the general public
- Must live within a twenty-mile radius of the Village of Rantoul corporate city limits within six months after the completion of a probationary term
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE JOB
- Install; troubleshoot; repair; and maintain the gas system; work includes the excavation around live gas lines; welding; fusing of pipe; forming meter sets; installation/replacement of mains or service lines; leak survey and leak investigation
- Oversee the work activities of other employees involved in the gas system; assists in the training and qualifying of employees on proper work and Village of Rantoul procedures; and equipment operation; provides technical advice and assistance
- Assist and prepares; records and submit reports detailing gas related activities as required by the Village’s O & M Manual; OQ Manual; and the ICC. Include the results of scheduled leak surveys; JULIES; leak calls; regulator reports; etc.
- Coordinate or investigate consumer complaints of gas odor; high bills or faulty meter operations; checks for misreads or malfunctioning of meters; discuss solutions with customer and make corrections if possible
- Respond to JULIE requests: coordinate and perform the locating of all Village of Rantoul utility lines and customer services for residents; contractors; utility companies; and Village of Rantoul crews
- Provide operational information for the Village of Rantoul in gas related issues with the IMGA; IPEA; IEPA; and ICC
- Provide service and support in maintaining Village of Rantoul HVAC systems
- Maintains landscape and grounds of Village of Rantoul sites as required and may include building maintenance or repair
