Village of Rantoul is looking to hire a full-time Lineman.
Under direction of Line Foreman maintains and repairs electrical lines throughout the Village: performs a variety of associated tasks such as installing overhead lines maintaining substations trimming trees maintaining equipment and responding to emergency situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- At least three years’ experience in activities related to the construction and maintenance of electrical lines
- Completion of Apprentice Lineman training
- Valid State of Illinois CDL A Vehicle Operator's license
- Working knowledge of the hazards associated with electrical distribution system work and of the standard safety measures and precautions
- Working knowledge of the installation; maintenance; and repair of the electrical distribution system
- Care and use of tools; equipment; and machinery used in electrical line construction and maintenance
- On-call rotation
- Learn and apply troubleshooting procedures
- Attend ongoing training programs
- Climb utility poles and work from an aerial truck
- Work under inclement weather conditions
- Perform the operation and maintenance of all pertinent machinery; vehicles; equipment and tools
- Detect safety hazards and institute appropriate corrective procedures
- Construct; maintain; and repair primary and secondary electrical service lines and substations
- Respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day and on weekends as needed
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Work independently and/ as a team
- Installs new electrical lines; sets poles; assembles and hangs crossarms; transformers and other hardware and strings new wire; connects transformers and secondary lines; installs underground lines
- Maintains existing electrical lines; repairs and/or replaces crossarms; insulators; transformers and other hardware; relocates existing lines; replaces existing lines with new lines for increased capacity
- Responds to emergency call outs relating to storm damage; power outages; broken street lights or other problems; locates the problem; decides on appropriate action and makes repairs and/or calls for assistance
- Operates performs minor maintenance on a variety of machinery such as the bucket truck; backhoe; trencher and other vehicles and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of the electrical system; notifies foreman of problems with equipment; cleans; greases and inspects fuel levels on machinery
- Trims trees that are obstructing electrical lines; cuts limbs; tops trees or takes tree completely down; cleans up debris when work is done
- Expands and/or updates existing substations; levels the ground; lays underground piping and pours concrete to form substation pads; installs transformers; regulators and breakers; builds substation towers; maintains and repairs substations
- Completes work orders from Electric department administration for temporary and permanent house service and security lights; investigates low voltage problems from customers
- Services light fixtures at parks; installs and maintains overhead lines; underground lines and electrical meters; replaces bulbs; ballasts and the wiring in light structures

The selected applicant will be required to meet the 30-minute response time that is required for on-call / emergency calls. This position is a union position. This position will stay open until filled.
