TITLE: SGC Student Council Sponsor

LOCATION: Urbana Sixth Grade Center

SUPERVISOR: Principal/Assistant Principal

JOB SUMMARY: The Urbana Sixth Grade Center Student Council Sponsor organizes and facilitates The SGC Student Council members. The SGC Student Council is an organization for students that serves as a forum and decision-making body for student concerns and actions and as a model of democracy in action for the student citizens. The purpose of this organization will be the betterment of student life in school and the promotion of school spirit.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to facilitate students in the following:

• To represent and express the views, concerns, and opinions of fellow students and communicate ideas for school improvement to the SGC School Improvement Team and other channels, such as PTSA and SGC Administration
• To act as a governing agent for student activities, which includes assisting students in creating weekly meeting agendas, managing financial records, creating student body announcements, and organizing special events and projects
• To assist student council members in being fiscally responsible, managing a budget, and organizing fundraising events
• To assist student council members in organizing special events and projects that lead to a positive school climate and school spirit, such as schoolwide dances, book fairs, spirit week, and others
• To attain a full understanding and working knowledge of the SGC Student Handbook
• To provide leadership and direction to students
• Attend and assist in the facilitation of all Student Council meetings after school
• To give effort and support to SGC
• To complete academic tasks given by teachers
• To be a positive role model for others
• Monitors the academic performance of student council members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages students to maintain a high academic standard
• To perform any and all additional duties as assigned by SGC Administration

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is based on a stipend determined through the Urbana School District #116 and UEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated by the current supervisor, Principal/Assistant Principal

START DATE: Immediately

NOTE: This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.
