JOB TITLE: Elementary School Assistant Principal

JOB SUMMARY: Provide educational leadership in creating an educational environment for learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Knowledge of evaluations, data collection, and positive behavior intervention systems is required. High task orientation and strong people skills. It is essential that individual know/skills in staff development, PBIS, Common Core, assessments, PERA, balanced literacy, and possess visionary leadership skills.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As a building leader, I contribute toward and facilitate the learning needs of the students assigned to the school and obtain the efforts of all staff members through encouragement and example.
- Evaluates the performance of all staff members assigned to the school in accordance with the district evaluation plan and PERA.
- Enables staff to improve performance and grow on the job by providing staff development/in-service or directing staff to other offerings.
- Selects, hires, and manages the performance of staff assigned to the building, except for some itinerant special education staff members and service contractors.
- Recommends changes or improvements in all areas of operation that will enable the school and staff to best serve the needs of the students assigned to the school.
- Collects, records, stores, and makes available as needed, the data which will assist with sound planning and decision-making for individual students, classrooms, the school and the district. Manages data in accordance with all privacy acts and district policy.
- Collaborates with the other elementary principals and district administrators to further the cause of elementary education and to promote district-wide activities.
- Establishes good relationships with school clientele, parents, and businesses to bring together school and community.
- Develops a personal and professional growth plan enabling the assistant principal to become increasingly proficient in fulfilling his/her leadership role.
- Supports and maintains a positive school climate.
- Manages all aspects of the physical environment to facilitate the education of students assigned to the school, to ensure the health and safety of students and staff, and to implement other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, with training in administration, supervision, and curriculum development at the elementary or middle school level.
- Illinois Licensure with Administrative Endorsement
EXPERIENCE
- Three years of successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary or middle school level.
- Three years or more of successful administrative, supervisory, or leadership experience at the elementary or middle school level.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a continuous improvement model.
- Visible accessibility.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and listening skills.
- The vision, compassion, and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction at the elementary school level.
- Must possess or be able to obtain proper certification from ISBE under Section 24A-3 of the School Code enabling to evaluate certified employees. This position must maintain this certification during their employment with the school district.
- Must complete therapeutic crisis training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, standing, and light physical assertion. Occasionally, the job requires the ability to intervene physically with students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary is determined by the Superintendent. This position has a 11-month calendar year. This is not a position within the collective bargaining unit and is an administrative position. This is an exempt position. Salary range $75,000-$90,000 dependent on education and experience. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel and the State Board of Education under PERA.
