Urbana School District #116TITLE: Building NurseLOCATION: Yankee RidgeSUPERVISOR: District Nurse, Building Administrator(s)JOB SUMMARY: Building Nurses promote the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of students. The Building Nurse is directly responsible for the Health Services in assigned buildings while maintaining high ethics and confidentiality. All aspects of this job should be performed in accordance with both the district/state board of education policies and procedures and state law regarding nurse practice.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Ensures medication authorization/physician orders are complete.- Maintains safe procedures for administering, storing, and documenting medication the physician prescribes.- Keep individual medication records for each student—current and discontinued.- Manage field trip medications and coordinate with teachers.- Monitors medication effectiveness and communicates medication-related concerns to parents/guardians and prescribing physicians.- Provides specialized procedures as ordered by physicians.- Notify building administrator/s of all reportable accidents per the Illinois Administrative Code.- Documents all student contacts in Skyward.- Maintains a clean, user-friendly, and organized health services office.- Maintains confidential communication with appropriate staff, students, and families.- Manages and makes referrals for community health services and provides follow-up services as needed.- Communicates with parents regarding the student's health status.- Assesses individual students' health and safety needs and assists in developing and implementing plans to meet those needs at school.- Determines the epidemiological impact of students’ contagious illnesses and acts to prevent the spread of communicable diseases in the school setting per USD#116 policy.- Provides staff with up-to-date information about students’ health care needs on an as needed to know basis.- Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.- Maintains emergency medical kits for students with Emergency Action Plans.- Maintains stock of undesignated inhalers and EpiPens.- Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies, and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.- Respond to medical emergencies in the building as needed.- Travel within USD#116 to assist other buildings as needed.- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the District Nurse or Designee.QUALIFICATIONS:- Current RN Illinois Nursing License- Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certified- Prior professional nursing experience in a pediatric, adolescent, or community environment preferredTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:- Salary and Benefit information can be found on the Human Resources webpage.- Salary is based on step placement determined by education, experience, and the Urbana Education Association and Board of Education Collective Bargaining Agreement.- This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position.- This position is not exempt.- 7 hours a day.
