Afterschool Leader

Champaign Park District - Part-time 2, Non-exempt (hours not to exceed 19 per week on average)


About the Job:

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in children’s lives? As an Afterschool Leader, you’ll play an active, hands-on role in creating a fun, safe, and engaging environment for youth after school. You won’t just supervise—you’ll lead games, spark creativity, and build meaningful connections with participants while helping them learn and grow through play and social interaction.


Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Lead and actively participate in recreational and educational activities for children of varying ages.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports positive social interactions.
  • Enforce program rules and safety guidelines to ensure participant well-being.
  • Administer basic first aid and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and program records.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and fellow staff.
  • Support daily operations by maintaining clean, organized, and safe program spaces.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Demonstrated responsibility and reliability in attendance and job performance
  • Strong communication skills for positive interaction with participants, peers, and supervisors
  • Ability to lead recreational activities for children of varying ages
  • Willingness to learn and follow instructions from supervisors and experienced leaders
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to support program success
  • Adaptability to perform different tasks and responsibilities as needed
