This position performs routine custodial work, building maintenance, and facility set-ups. This position requires the performance of duties both indoors and outdoors. This position performs many duties that require standing for long periods and/or moving/lifting equipment. The incumbent also must perform some duties outdoors seasonally and be able to work effectively in sometimes extreme conditions. The Custodian position is responsible for the supervision of seasonal and intermittent employees and community service participants as needed. Supervision is received from the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

Duties

· Completes custodial maintenance of facilities including floors, windows, walls, restrooms and classrooms.

· Creates and maintains maintenance schedules andrecords.

· Logs and performs “set-ups” for building and pavilion rentals.

· Identifies and solves problems routinely as they arise.

· Clears off parking lots, road curbs, bridges, playing courts and fishing piers by using maintenance equipment.

· Removes ashes inside grills weekly.

· Clean/Sanitize drinking fountains in parks weekly.

· Cleans pavilions.

· Removes litter from around building(s) and facility exteriors.

· Maintains records as required or directed.

· Uses equipment and chemicals in a safe and efficient manner.

· Inventories, stocks and orders janitorial and building supplies for the district.

· Assists with building inspections for the district on a monthlybasis.

· Understands and works from written and oral instructions.

·Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision

· Demonstrates ability to plan, schedule, and organize work independently with little direct supervision.

· Delegates tasks to seasonal and intermittent employees; directs and supervises their daily work.

· Coordinates custodial activities.

· Performs inspections of contractual cleaning.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Finance

· Assists with the preparation of the annual budget.

· Assists with the bid and purchases of equipment andsupplies.

· Maintains records as required or directed.

· Exercises good and ethical judgment in the use of Purchase Card to support efficient and effectiveness of job-related activities.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Communication

· Enforces park district rules and regulations.

· Informs supervisor(s) of problems with parks or equipment; follows protocol to report any damage, vandalism, and safety hazards as necessary.

· Attends staff meetings, workshops, and trainings as required.

· Communicates effectively with the public, co-workers and supervisor.

· Serves as a member of the Safety Team and on other committees as needed.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Other

· Assists with snow removal operations; reports weekly building schedules for after hours snow removal crew.

· Demonstrates knowledge of applicable safety practices and procedures, with ability to take proper precautions and assure safety of self, co-workers, volunteers, and general public.

· Maintains ability to work varying/additional hours as requested; ability to work varying/additional hours in emergency or special situations.

· Performs duties under varied weather conditions.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· High School graduate or equivalent required.

· Must have at least three (3) years of previous work experience in custodial maintenance as determined by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

· Provide satisfactory work and personal references.

· State of Illinois driver’s license required.

· Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire is required.

· Knowledge and experience in basic computer skills (e-mail, web research, data entry) and ability to perform record keeping in registration software.

· Knowledge of custodial techniques, supplies and heavy equipment.

· Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
