Community Development and Leadership Responsibilities Assume leadership role in development of a safe, positive, and welcoming apartment community environment through promotion of the Illinois Residential Experience. Coordinate staff intervention regarding resident concerns, conflicts, and crisis. Assist staff in resolving interpersonal and inter-group conflicts and mediate as needed. Engage residents in learning communication and problem-solving skills. Identify assessment best practices and assist in the development of community and activities that support the implementation of the Residential Curriculum. Implement evaluation and assessment of curricular strategies within their communities. Provide guidance and support to staff, residents, and resident groups in planning and developing programs to meet the needs of the community. Particular attention will focus on the needs of international residents and families. Assist with the development and implementation of resident orientation programs and activities. Enhance resident development opportunities through advising of resident groups. Educate residents, faculty and staff regarding University and Housing policies and procedures. Identify and address behaviors that violate community standards and University and Housing policies. Serve as professional staff on-call for check-ins and emergency response. Serve as primary resource for incidents of domestic violence. Staff Supervision, Recruitment, and Training Responsibilities Supervisors engage in and implement University Housing’s inclusion, culture, and climate initiatives. Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate the neighborhood assistants. Oversee the development of strategies and lesson plans to meet outcomes for the residential curriculum in their communities. Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and staff development. Assist with the development and implementation of staff training. Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Administrative Responsibilities Serve as liaison for residents with other Housing units and private vendors. Coordinate facilities and grounds related projects as they affect residents. Respond to resident concerns and communicate with appropriate staff, as needed. Coordinate various administrative tasks within community, such as lease renewal campaign, resident check-in/out, yearly resident census, residential parking program, and damage assessment. Manage the dissemination of information to residents. Assist in developing marketing materials. Participate in professional staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Serve on and chair, as needed, various committees on the department and division level. Develop and administer area programming budget. Act as a University judicial hearing officer for apartment-level violations utilizing an educational and developmental approach. Perform other duties as assigned. Crisis Response Management Responsibilities Assume on-call responsibilities within a multi-residence hall and multi-apartment area on a regularly scheduled basis. Assist with campus on-call coverage rotation during all University break periods for break housing, which may include holidays. Respond to apartment emergencies related to fire, weather or some type of outside emergency. Coordinate response with Housing staff in the area (Building Services, Maintenance, etc.) during emergencies. Professional Responsibility Maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, co-workers and University Housing staff. Be open and receptive to constructive criticism and feedback. Demonstrate quality decision-making and evaluative skills, including taking responsibility for actions and decisions. Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the position, area community, Family Graduate Housing, and University Housing. Fulfill expectations for assigned committees and projects, and other duties as assigned.
