Job Summary

Provides management functions and leadership to the Student Affairs Technology team responsible for supporting Student Affairs Health & Wellness units. In addition to supervising this team, designs, develops, supports, and maintains the overall systems. Provides management guidance and interaction with the senior leadership of Student Affairs Technology and the units which it supports.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leadership, Management & Supervision
    • Provides management guidance and interaction with senior leadership.
    • Leads technology operations teams for health and wellness related units in SATech, serves as a resource to others, and acts as an escalation point for all team members.
    • Manages professional IT staff assigned to team.
    • Provides professional growth guidance and coaching to IT professionals with varying levels of experience.
    • Promotes strong team development and networking opportunities using performance management best practices to create a healthy environment for individual employee growth.
    • Oversees the services of the team to ensure quality, reliability, and responsiveness.
    • Evaluates current team and business need requirements to ensure appropriate staffing and training.
    • Acts as a Subject Matter Expert for technical and institutional knowledge, providing training and advice to. technology team(s) and campus stakeholders
  • Design, Development and Support
    • Identifies problems to be solved, proposes solutions, obtains approval, and/or escalates appropriately.
    • Utilizing knowledge of assigned systems environment and associated user base, maintains and builds user and product manager relationships, and keeps assigned user community well informed of technical issues and changes.
    • Examines shared systems used across different healthcare and wellness units.
    • Evaluates policies and procedures and implements modifications where there are deficiencies.
    • Coordinating and liaising with other campus IT providers to use and improve shared or central IT services.
  • Hardware and System Software
    • Serves as the principal subject matter expert for healthcare and wellness systems for SATech and its supported units.
    • Actively works to ensure the interoperability of healthcare and wellness systems with the other functional groups within SATech.
  • Security
    • Implements system and data security best practices.
    • Provides guidance and support for HIPAA compliance, Illinois Medical Laws related to data privacy, PCI compliance, FERPA compliance, llliniSecure Standards, and other standard security practices.
    • Coordinates with the software development team to ensure application software conforms to the University standard for network and system security.
  • Other Duties
    • Manages and leads large scale IT projects including those spanning Health and Wellness units.
    • Designs, implements, and maintains Disaster Recovery Plans and Business Continuity Plans.
    • Assists with the development and tracking of the IT budget for Health & Wellness units in collaboration with the SATech Liaison and unit directors of Finance and Health Information.
    • Attends SATech Strategic and Health & Wellness tactical and strategic meetings, including in place of Associate Director of Health and Wellness Technology as needed.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Installation of server and workstation hardware involves frequent lifting and moving of equipment, media, and peripherals approximating 35·40 pounds, and accessing all areas of the building.


Work Schedule, Travel, or Other Job Expectations

Position is eligible for in-person and hybrid work. The majority of work will be within an office work environment, however visits to other campus locations can be expected. May require emergency response or maintenance work outside of normal working hours. Position involves facilitating and leading meetings; participating constructively with relevant, concise and reasoned analysis.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Any one or any combination totaling 8 years (96 months) from the following categories:
    1. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT Systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      1. 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      2. Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      3. 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      4. Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    2. Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field, which includes supervisory or lead worker capacity.
  2. Demonstrated experience in designing and deploying advanced infrastructure concepts in an enterprise environment including but not limited to systems analysis, interoperability, or integrations.
  3. Demonstrated experience leading teams, projects, or cross-functional work efforts.
  4. Demonstrated experience managing high-risk data within circumstances where federal/state regulations such as FERPA, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR or other regulations may apply.
  5. Demonstrated experience in applying technology security concepts in an enterprise/large-scale environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree or higher in information technology, computer science or related field.
  2. Experience in a higher education environment.
  3. Experience in a healthcare environment with direct responsibility related to the maintenance and upkeep of Electronic Health Record Systems, Laboratory Information Systems, Picture Archiving and Communications Systems, Pharmacy Systems, and/or other related healthcare information technology.
  4. Experience with creating and maintaining HL7 data transfers including the use of Interface Engines.
  5. Experience supporting IT infrastructure, including managing virtual server infrastructure, endpoint management, essential network services (DNS, DHCP, and/or VPNs), Active Directory and diagnosing network problems.
  6. Experience supporting and utilizing performance monitoring tools and reports.
  7. Practical project management experience or formal certification in project management.
  8. Completion of a leadership development program that supports skills in a technical or IT focused environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Ability to work and lead in a collaborative team environment.
  2. Ability to solve complex technical problems, utilize good organizational skills, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  3. Excellent communication skills to a variety of audiences (management, peers, users and vendors), as well as the ability to draft proposals and documentation.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5030 - Information Technology Manager/Administrative Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 6/30/2026.

  • Salary Information: The budgeted salary for the position is $85,000 to $115,000 per year.
  • Hybrid Position: Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
  • Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
