Job Summary
Working under the administrative supervision from the Associate Director for Clinical Support Services, responsible for developing and supervising the nursing service of one or more clinical units.Duties & Responsibilities
- Specific Unit Management
• Oversees and assures the day-to-day operations of units to which they are assigned.
• Responds to daily procedural questions.
• Coordinates scheduling and agenda for unit meetings; chairs unit meetings.
• Inspects unit on a daily basis, and quarterly basis for safety and infection control.
• Responsible for the maintenance of unit supplies and equipment for daily operations; oversees their use and care.
• Maintains an awareness of budget Issues and expenditures and works with Administration to stay within set parameters.
• Keeps Administration informed of the needs of the clinical units and any special problems (staffing, equipment and supplies, patient care issues).
• Consults with Administrable regarding utilization of unit space and equipment.
• Assists Administration In scheduling or special appointments, procedures and clinics.
• Responsible and accountable to support and ensure a culture of safety, quality and risk management including compliance with ethics.
• Coordinates the services rendered by other professional personnel with those of the nursing personnel.
• As needed, assists providers and support staff within scope or practice to ensure smooth functioning of unit.
• Assumes appropriate related additional duties to further the mission of the Health Center. - Personnel Related • Provides direct supervision to Staff Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants and clerical staff assigned to the unit(s); responsible for daily work assignments. • Works with the Associate Director to ensure adequate staffing. Review staff requests for leave time and make recommendations to Administration and central staffing. • Working with the Associate Director, is responsible for the orientation of new non-academic personnel to the units and the evaluation or such employees during the probationary period. • Assist with new provider orientation. • Performs annual performance evaluations on RNs, LPNs, MAs and clerical staff assigned to the unit(s). • Counsels staff as needed, giving feedback to the Associate Director. • Works with Administration to initiate and successfully document all issues leading up to and requiring the invoking of the disciplinary process, if necessary. • Assists Administration with staff selection through participation in the interview process.
- Quality Improvement
• Maintains Policy and Procedure manuals on the units.
• Develops, implements and reports unit specific quality improvement projects to Assistant Director.
• Maintains accurate records for unit specific infection control and safety.
• Participates and/or chairs committees and task forces as assigned by the Director.
• Prepares reports and studies as requested by Administration. - General Administration
• Collaborates with the Associate Director in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the general nursing program, including policy, protocols and procedures.
• Works with nursing leadership to develop inter/intro unit policies and goals.
• Participates with Administration in developing goals and policies related to the nursing area or patient care, education and research.
• Coordinates activities with other nursing leaders/units to ensure continuity of support services for patient care.
• Promotes teamwork, collaboration, excellent customer service, and openness to change.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
2. A. Three years of professional nursing experience.
OR
B. Two years of professional nursing experience and one year of related advanced education.
3. Five (5) years of professional nursing/healthcare management experience overseeing a unit or department in a healthcare facility with primary responsibilities such as personnel and performance management. These 5 years may be concurrent with the requirements outlined in the minimum acceptable quals of the classification.
Preferred Qualifications
Seven (7) years of professional nursing/healthcare management experience overseeing a unit or department in a healthcare facility with primary responsibilities such as personnel and performance management, scheduling, selection and hiring, infection control, policy development and enforcement, risk management and budgeting. Experience with Mental Health nursing.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2702 - Administrative Nurse III position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/20/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $80,000 to $83,000.
