College of Media Adjunct Faculty - Rolling Search

The College of Media at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants to fill one or more Adjunct Faculty positions. These positions are non-tenure track and will be between 0 to 49% time, depending on department needs. Successful applicants will become part of the College’s adjunct pool, which means that they are eligible to be hired to teach assigned courses in the fall or spring semesters. Not all individuals in the pool will be hired to teach in a given semester. Departments will reach out on a semester-by-semester basis contingent on teaching needs.

General Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses for the Department of Advertising, the Department of Journalism, or the Department of Media & Cinema Studies in one or more instructional modalities (on campus, online, or hybrid), mentoring and overseeing Graduate Teaching Assistants (if relevant), and meeting with instructors of other sections when appropriate. Teaching responsibilities include course preparation, instruction, grading and student support.

Teaching Areas:

Adjunct Instructors may be assigned to teach courses related to sports media, digital storytelling, social media, consumer insights, film criticism, news editing and reporting, portfolios, advertising technology, film & TV, public relations, branding, global advertising, interactive media and gaming, and media entrepreneurship to first-year students through seniors. The successful candidates will demonstrate a track record of excellence in teaching and/or significant professional experience in the content area.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a field related to the course(s) to be taught. Professional experience in a field related to the course(s) to be taught. Bachelor’s degrees will be considered if accompanied by significant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of combined teaching and professional experience in a field relevant to the intended field of instruction. Merit-based exceptions to this qualification will be considered.

Appointment Information

This is a part-time Academic position to be appointed on an as needed basis. The expected start date is Fall 2026. The budgeted salary for these positions is $8500 for each 3-4 credit hour course; taught in the 16-week semester or one of the two 8-week terms; to be negotiated based on percentage of appointment. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
