Job Summary

The Data Analyst helps the university by providing support for data analysis and business intelligence tools. This role involves understanding what university staff need from data and working with them to create reports, dashboards, and other solutions that help them achieve their goals. The Data Analyst also assists the AITS Decision Support team in keeping analytics and business intelligence programs running smoothly, and helps with projects aimed at improving and updating the tools and systems used for data analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • 1. Analyze and create an inventory track of data analytics and business intelligence assets, including data, reports, dashboards, and queries tools that will be used during future modernization programs and projects.
  • 2. Work directly with university staff to help them use data effectively, including building reports and dashboards based on their needs.
  • 3. Collaborate with other data analytics staff to design data solutions that follow university standards.
  • 4. Learn new data analytics tools and skills to help improve the team's and clients' success.
  • 5. Take part in projects, update others on progress, raise important issues, and help manage risks to keep projects on track.
  • Help develop and coordinate training programs to improve data literacy among university staff

Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent. 2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories: a. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months), Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months), 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months), Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) b. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience working in a University or higher education setting.
2. Familiarity with modern data analytics, including data virtualization and cloud data storage.
3. Experience with cloud-based ERP systems.

  • 1. Able to use critical thinking to understand what clients need, find useful information in data, and deliver solutions that work.
  • 2. Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • 3. Capable of gathering requirements and developing data analysis solutions, including creating reports and visualizations, through an iterative process.
  • 4. Experienced in working with various stakeholders and teams.
  • 5. Able to develop SQL queries.
  • 6. Understands data models and database environments.
  • 7. Able to prioritize work and collaborate in a team setting.
  • 8. Flexible and comfortable working in an agile environment.
  • 9. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • 10. Pays close attention to detail.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The budgeted salary range for the position is $75,000 - $85,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equitySalary is commensurate with experience.
