The Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign has an opening for a Storekeeper I who will perform various duties related to storeroom operations including handling sales vouchers, special and general stock ordering, stocking merchandise, inventory control, etc.
MRL staff members support nearly 100 affiliated faculty and their research groups both in-house and around campus and provide scientific instrument access to over 1,000 researchers per year via a nationally recognized user facility. Duties and Responsibilities:
· Inspect and process packages for the MRL, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering and Beckman which includes preparing the necessary receiving documentation and notifying customers using e-mail or other means of communication. This includes inspecting items and noting any damage to the proper documentation.
· Initiate and process purchase orders via the department’s internal procurement system as needed to maintain a quality storeroom.
· Handle and tag general stock for resale. Rotate stock as needed. Tag stock with readable numbers which will be used when customers enter the information into the MRL sales program. Prepare and inspect all items being shipped out from the MRL receiving and shipping area including the preparation of documentation as required. Provide assistance to expedite the researcher's request.
· Notify researchers when packages arrive, processing overnight parcels, inspecting packages for damage, signing receiving documents, verifying signatures before releasing parcels, and processing requests for ship-outs.
· Review the inventory level of merchandise sold in the MRL Storeroom to ensure an adequate level of stock necessary to meet the researchers' needs. Contact vendors to determine pricing and place orders, as required. Conduct a physical inventory, compare results obtained with totals on control records, and bring any discrepancies to the attention of the Supervisor. Unloading special items to ensure that all safety precautions are met, which includes inspecting items and noting any damage to the proper documentation. Normal precautions should be taken to avoid injury.
· Perform other duties as assigning including developing a plan for allocation of space and identifying location for general supplies, attending meetings relating to MRL Storeroom operations, and maintaining a pleasant, clean and orderly storeroom.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to independently and effectively interpret and respond to questions and requests from faculty, staff, and students providing explanation and justification of policies and procedures.
· Accuracy, speed and completeness in performance of tasks while maintaining high attention to detail. Ability to adjust to interruptions from faculty, students, and staff.
· Ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately to customer needs.
· Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
· Ability to complete the required training in the Transport of Hazardous Materials, Chemical Waste, General Laboratory Safety,
· Chemical Management for Laboratories, Parts I -6.
· Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and electrical fixtures, electronics, lubricants, various types of metals, office supplies, chemicals, solvents, hand and power tools, vacuum and ultra-high vacuum parts, receiving and shipping, procurement, is preferred.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time Civil Service Storekeeper I position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. This is a bargained position and as such, the salary is driven by the collective bargaining agreement. The entry-level salary for the Storekeeper I classification is $45,415.50 ($23.29/hour). This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the Workplace Flexibility policy. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
