Job Summary

Conduct research in the area of neurophysiological mechanisms of sound processing and identification of disease pathophysiology associated with central auditory processing disorders.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct and manage experiments, including but not limited to behavioral and electrophysiological assessment of hearing function in rodents
  • Design and maintain custom software and hardware for behavioral/electrophysiological data acquisition and analysis
  • Assist in rodent care/animal colony management and maintaining an organized laboratory environment
  • Train students and other lab personnel on laboratory procedures and experimental methods used in the lab.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. or MD. with training in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, audiology, physiology, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in neurophysiological mechanisms of hearing and hearing disorders.
  • Experience with in vivo electrophysiological recordings, advanced statistical and signal processing analysis techniques, and computer programming.
  • Knowledge of auditory system anatomy/physiology.
  • Knowledge of TDT system 3 hardware/software.
  • Ability to clearly communicate results and their importance.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and to work independently with minimum guidance.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, and students from a wide variety of disciplines.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $58,000-$60,000. This position may become regular at a later date. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee.
