Building Service Foreperson - Illini Union (Deep Nights)

The scheduled work hours for this position are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM (Central Time).


Job Summary

Supervises the work involved in the care and maintenance of the Illini Union, as related to custodial operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct, supervise, evalute and assist Building Service Workers on assigned shift, ensuring all custodial duties are carried out to Illini Union standards.
  • Direct, supervise, evaluate and assist in making sure all necessary set-ups related to Illini Union are in a timely and professional manner. Assisting with BSW duties may also be required, ensuring adequate personnel coverage is available to meet special requests.
  • Work with Building Service Management to create schedules that cover the needs of the operations, including holidays, vacations and special needs. Confirm holiday schedules are posted at least two weeks before any holiday.
  • Verify and approve timesheets in the timekeeping systems(s) including entering benefit use. Keep record of benefit usage and overtime worked for each supervised employee.
  • Work with Building Service Management to ensure all Building Service Workers are properly trained in all aspects of the job including but not limited to training for new procedures, products and/or equipment.
  • Responsible for daily completion of Foreman logs and performing daily routine inspections in all areas of responsibility to document any projects and issues. Responsible for quality of work on assigned shift and works with Building Service Management to maintain high standard of cleanliness.
  • Enforces safe working habits including ergonomic risk management, safe operation and handling of materials and equipment. Inspects cleaning equipment for repairs and/or replacement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years (36 months) of experience in building custodial work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of custodial duties, chemicals and equipment used in maintaining the various types of surfaces.
  • Knowledge of equipment related to use in public functions and special events.
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to use computers, computer systems and basic computer applications.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 1600 - Building Service Foreman position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/30/2026.

  • Salary Information: The budgeted salary for this position is $58,620.00 per year.
  • Fully Onsite position: This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
  • Work Schedule: The scheduled work hours for this position are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM (Central Time) with Wednesday and Thursday off.
  • Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization.
