Assistant Food Production Manager - Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition
The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition seeks a full-time (12-month) Food Production Manager. This position is under the direction of the Instructor and Assistant Director of Bevier Café. This position is responsible for the production and service of food for all related Food Science and Human Nutrition courses.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
· Assist in supervising the preparation and service of food in Bevier Café and Spice Box (50%)
· Check and order foodstuff and supplies for lab operations (20%)
· Assist with planning menus and events (10%)
· Plans and supervises the general sanitation of the kitchen and dining rooms (10%)
· Scheduling, training, and supervising personnel (5%)
· Keeps records of invoices, food costs, and inventories (5%)
Position Requirements and Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or combination totaling four (4) years (48 months) from the categories below:
Preferred:
- Experience with recipe management/menu engineering software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to supervise.
- Administrative ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher, for use in ordering, inventory, communication with the management team, guests, and students.
- Comfortable with technology and learning new programs that are useful for running hospitality operations.
- Ability to maintain patience while training students.
- Ability to professionally resolve interpersonal conflict, guest complaints, needs, and concerns.
Physical Demands:
Position involves reaching, twisting, pulling, and long periods of remaining in a stationary position. Position involves rearranging and handling kitchen equipment and supplies, which may be heavy.
Working Conditions:
The position involves working in a wide range of temperatures, from -10°F to 95°F. Some risk is involved when working with commercial restaurant equipment, including slicers, steam-jacketed tilt kettles, ovens, fryers, wet floors, and chemicals. This is not an inclusive list and may include many other types of equipment.
Appointment Information:
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2392 – Assistant Food Production Manager position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The budgeted salary range for this position is $45,000-$55,000. During the summer and fall semesters, the daily hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. During the spring semester, the hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 except when there are Spice Box meals taking place. During this period, the hours are 11 AM to 7 PM and is dependent on the student meal schedule which fluctuates.
