The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) is searching for an HR Consultant-Talent Acquisition. LAS is home to 15,000 students; 1,300 faculty and staff; and over 186,000 alumni. The HR Consultant-Talent Acquisition provides strategic consultation and expert guidance on recruitment and talent acquisition matters, ensuring alignment with the university's goals and workforce planning needs. This role is vital for shaping the university's talent acquisition strategies.

The HR Consultant-Talent Acquisition will play a crucial role in hiring within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences and will work closely with the Director of Human Resources-Talent Management. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive talent acquisition strategies.
    • Leads and coordinates College-level review, approval, and oversight of a wide range of academic and staff HR actions
    • Provides strategic leadership in HR training and policy development by advising on talent acquisition and retention practices, interpreting and applying relevant policies, analyzing search-related data, developing and delivering training materials, partnering with senior HR leadership on policy implementation
  • Responsible for all aspects of facilitating the search process and job postings for their assigned portfolio.
  • Mentor and train talent acquisition staff.
  • Provide expert consultation and expertise of the unit's activities to develop and implement recruitment plans targeted to pertinent applicant populations.
  • Analyze recruitment trends and recommend proactive measures, leading internal branding and advertising strategies for talent acquisition.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  • Four (4) years (48 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
  • Demonstrated experience working with employee management systems and /or other HR reporting tools.
  • Experience researching and interpreting HR and or related policies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated HR support and coordination experience within a higher education setting.
  • Experience with classification and compensation, including salary analysis and internal equity assessments.
  • Extensive, progressive HR experience with strong skills in policy research, interpretation, and recommendation-making.
  • Proven ability to lead full-cycle recruitment for staff and faculty roles.
  • Skilled in advising supervisors and HR partners on job descriptions, career pathways, and policy application.
  • Strong training and documentation skills, including developing and delivering HR guidance.
  • Effective project manager capable of handling multiple concurrent searches and initiatives.
  • Background working in unionized environments, including interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
  • Relevant HR certifications (e.g., SHRM, HRCI).
  • Working knowledge of Civil Service classifications, rules, and employment structures
  • Ability to analyze and interpret HR data to inform decisions and policy development.
  • Proven track record of customer service to a broad range of clients
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in escalating or resolving issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Collaborative team member skilled at building positive working relationships.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive environment
  • Knowledge of university HR policies, procedures, and systems (e.g., BANNER, HRFE, Cornerstone, JDxpert, I‑9 Tracker, ANA, PARIS, Webi) and ability to learn new systems and applications.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $70,000 to $80,000. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship work authorization. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule (remote work and in-person work in Champaign-Urbana each week) after an initial on-site training period, per the University of Illinois workplace flexibility guidelines https://cam.illinois.edu/policies/hr-87-2/
