Job Summary

To perform duties requiring a high degree of skill in the installation, maintenance, repair and operation of electrical equipment during its use, construction, or remodeling.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, and maintain electrical equipment/systems related to the production and distribution of all campus Utilities (electricity, steam, chilled water, domestic water, natural gas, water, compressed air, etc.); such as boilers and auxiliaries, precipitators, high voltage switchgear, transformers, chillers, motors, etc.
  • Install and maintain electrical systems that operate on alternating or direct current circuits, generators and appliances through panels, switches, meters, and circuit breakers.
  • Repair, maintain, and install motors and related electrical and electronic controls.
  • Repair, maintain, and install electrical switchboards, panels, household appliances, air conditioners, furnaces, public address systems, and other apparatus utilizing electricity or its effects.
  • Perform record keeping for systems installed or maintained.
  • Drive and operate any vehicle used for electrical construction work, maintenance work, or electrical repair work.
  • May act as lead worker to other electricians, laborers, and others as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of five (5) years (60 months) of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Extensive experience reading, interpreting, and working from electrical drawings, sketches, wiring diagrams and blueprints.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the National Electrical Code and University Building Standards.
  • Electrical knowledge to recognize unsafe or faulty conditions in construction, utilization, and distribution of electricity.
  • Professional skills to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical equipment of various types.
  • Ability to perform all tasks associated with skilled journeymen electricians.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 1262 - Electrician position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 12/8/2025. The hourly rate for an electrician in this role is $49.63 per hour.
