The Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for two Teaching Assistant/Associate/Full Professors.
The Department offers a Ph.D. degree, a professional Master’s degree (MSPE), and three undergraduate degrees (B.A. in Economics, B.S. in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics, and B.S. in Computer Science and Economics). Duties & Responsibilities
Preparing and presenting instructional content for courses in economics. Additional duties include monitoring and mentoring teaching assistants, holding office hours to meet with students outside of class time, writing and grading examinations, and assigning grades.
Teaching Professors must have a professional agenda within the economics discipline. A professional agenda could be performing research on topics in their field of expertise (economics fields or the field of economic education) and could including publication of research in professional journals, presenting research at conferences, and obtaining external funding to support research. A professional agenda could also be the preparation of instructional materials for use by instructors at other universities and colleges, and even high schools. These instructional materials could include textbooks, lecture presentations, problem sets, study guides, and exam materials. A professional agenda could also be following the latest research in some field of economics and preparing materials or presentations to make those research contributions accessible to students, alumni, policymakers, or the public in general.
Required Qualifications
Candidates with a PhD in Economics, or related areas in hand, and should have the ability to contribute effectively to instruction in the undergraduate program and have initiated a promising professional agenda related to economics will be considered as a Teaching Assistant Professor.
Candidates with a PhD in Economics, or related areas in hand, and have at least 5 year of full-time experience teaching economics to undergraduate or graduate students at a university or college which grants bachelor’s degrees or equivalent; experience appropriate for proposed rank in the following: developing undergraduate or graduate courses, a record of teaching effectiveness in those courses and record of professional agenda related to economics will be considered as a Teaching Associate Professor.
Candidates with a PhD in Economics, or related areas in hand, and have 10 years of full-time experience teaching economics to undergraduate or graduate students at a university or college which grants bachelor’s degrees or equivalent; experience appropriate for proposed rank in the following: developing undergraduate or graduate courses, a record of teaching effectiveness in those courses and a record of professional agenda related to economics will be considered as a Teaching Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching large lectures of 200 or more students
- Teaching focus in Macro Economics
- Public Engagement as part of Professional Agenda
Salary & Appointment Information
These are full-time, 9-month appointments, non-tenure track positions, renewable yearly, subject to enrollments, funding, and positive performance reviews. The target start date is August 16, 2026.
The budgeted salary range for the position is $90,000 to $97,000 at the Teaching Assistant Professor level, $97,000 to $107,000 at the Teaching Associate Professor level, and $107,000 to $117,000 at the Teaching Professor level. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Courses will be taught in-person on the Urbana-Champaign campus. There may be opportunities for online teaching.
