The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Multimedia Supervisor position. The Multimedia Supervisor oversees media equipment operations, manages the equipment checkout system, and supervises student staff. This role provides technical support to students and faculty, conducts training and workshops, and collaborates with the Media Tech Team to maintain and improve classroom technology services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage, update, and maintain equipment checkout program.
- Organize, audit, inventory, and retire media equipment; recommend new equipment as needed.
- Clerk checkout desk.
- Hold office hours for student equipment and software use support.
- Demonstrate and distribute equipment to classes as requested by faculty.
- Offer equipment training and multimedia software workshops.
- Schedule, train, and supervise student staff.
- Maintain and update checkout, return, and staffing procedures.
- Repair and clean media equipment.
- Create tutorials for media equipment and multimedia software.
- Participate in Media Tech Team meetings, recommendations, and general classroom support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the following categories:
A. college course work in mass communications, communications production, television productions/broadcasting, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. work experience in the operation and maintenance of instructional communications equipment.
2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience being responsible for the orientation, training, and supervision of employees in a multimedia library and for the proper functioning of the reproducing equipment owned or operated by the department, and fabricating exhibits, displays and/or sets.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with instructional use of audiovisual equipment and practices within a higher education setting.
- Experience supervising student staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of cinema, photo, audio, video, lighting, and related processes, techniques, and equipment.
- Proficiency with cross-platform multimedia technologies and their application.
- Knowledge of media formats and their application.
- Proficiency in computer programs and hardware used in cinema, photo, audio, video, lighting, and related processes.
- Proficiency in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting instructional media equipment.
- Strong communication skills, oral and written.
- Ability to organize and prioritize a department preventative maintenance program and repair schedule.
- Ability to produce, distribute, and assimilate cross-platform instructional multimedia materials.
- Ability to evaluate specifications of similar equipment to recommend the best product.
- Ability to perform effectively in an administrative capacity, including planning, organizing, and coordinating tasks and resources.
- Ability to lift, move, or transfer up to 50 pounds and set up multimedia equipment.
Appointment Information:
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2513 - Multimedia Supervisor position. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary for this position is $48,000 - $55,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
