Join our dynamic team at the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science! We are currently looking for a motivated individual to take on the role of Visiting Executive Director in the ACE Center for Evolvable Computing. This position will design and implement processes for managing the day-to
day operations necessary to achieve the vision and goals of the Research Center. The position will manage a Center with 21 faculty members and
their students spread over multiple institutions nationally, with close interaction with leaders of the US computer industry.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

Administration:
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center led from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
Coordinate with and implement directives from the sponsor, SRC, to ensure timely and smooth integration into center management.
Oversee the coordination of activities and operational logistics between the universities participating in the Center, including liaising with the UIUC Computer Science Department Business Office and the UIUC Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure proper grant administration and the completion of required agreements and subcontracts with university partners.
Oversee all aspects of communications including the development and maintenance of the Center’s website, brochure, newsletters, and social media content, the dissemination of information to all stakeholders as well as communication tools to facilitate the research enterprise such as wikis, Center internal meetings and teleconferences, Center outreach and education events and maintain Center Listserv.
Manage industry partnership matters, such as overseeing information dissemination, organizing Executive Advisory Board meetings, acting as a point of contact, and providing assistance to the Center Director and other co-Principal Investigators in efforts to recruit and retain industry collaborations in the Center.
Oversee the creation and maintenance of center data repositories necessary to meet the data management plan for the Center.
Work with Center Director and researchers to ensure the collection and storage of appropriate data, the preparation and timeliness of reports, including the SRC quarterly and annual reporting, invention disclosures, intellectual property agreements, Center success stories and publication reviews.
Plan, organize, and hosts bi-annual meetings as well as visits from industrial collaborators and funding agencies.
Travel, as needed, to coordinate activities between the participating universities, industry and government agencies.
Budget and Finance:
In conjunction with the UIUC Sponsored Programs office, oversee the overall budget of the Center and ensure the proper flow of funds between universities participating in the Center based on approved research project expenses and other Center-related activities. Prepare and review complex budgets, including cost share.
Coordinate collection of content and creation of the sponsors quarterly report, including setting internal deadlines, creating templates, distributing and collecting report content from all center PIs, compiling narrative research updates for review by the Center Director, and analyzing, compiling and creating the data report portion of the quarterly report to meet sponsor deadlines.
Collaborate with the UIUC Sponsored Programs office and school grant administration staff to track cost share as needed.
Liaise with the business and research administration representatives from the other universities participating in the Center to collect necessary reports, budgets and documents. Follow up on unallowable expenses when necessary.
Other:
Assume additional duties to contribute to the overall mission of the Center, as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.
Three years of managerial and administrative experience with major research centers or similar experience OR three years of demonstrated experience participating in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
Master’s Degree.
Familiarity with Computer Engineering research.
Experience with university research administration (e.g. grants and contracts) or budget management for a large-scale research operation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to understand and communicate effectively regarding engineering and scientific research programs, gained through experience and training.
Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

Appointment Information
This is a full-time academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The position may become permanent at a later date. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
