The Office of Marketing & Communications in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Marketing Coordinator position. The position is responsible for responsible for codeveloping, implementing and measuring strategic marketing plans for various Grainger College of Engineering academic departments. Serves as a partner and liaison between the OMC and assigned units, and plays an integral role in connecting activity to impact by optimizing the coordination and production of marketing activities and initiatives for departments and units; producing marketing campaigns and content; managing marketing channels; coordinating and conducting market research; regularly delivering performance data reports to inform strategic direction; and providing quality assurance for marketing materials.Duties & Responsibilities
Marketing Coordination:
- Take ownership of academic department marketing campaigns and projects and ensure they are executed within deadlines and budgets. Monitor project progress, identify potential issues and proactively communicate updates to key stakeholders.
- Create timely and relevant content and manage department mass marketing channels, including departmental websites, intranet, emails, e-newsletters, social media platforms, print publications, digital advertising and promotional materials.
- Work within OMC project management software (Asana) and system, maintaining accountability for projects and tasks.
- Work closely with OMC internal cross-functional teams, such as communications, creative, digital and web, to ensure seamless coordination and alignment of marketing initiatives. Foster strong working relationships and promote effective communication across teams.
- Maintain a pulse on marketing industry trends, best practices and emerging technologies. Share insights and recommendations to enhance marketing strategies and tactics.
- Provide quality assurance on marketing materials produced for academic departments and the college.
Strategy and Planning:
- Serve as a marketing strategic partner/liaison to foster strong relationships between departments/units and the OMC, maintain open lines of communication, identify opportunities for collaboration, coordinate and execute marketing efforts, and derive maximum benefit from partnerships to expand department and college goals and strategic plans.
- Assist with annual marketing planning and priority setting for academic departments in concert with the department and OMC leadership.
- Lead the coordination and execution of various academic department marketing campaigns, particularly campaigns centered around department recruitment, affinity, reputation and advancement, and in alignment with Grainger Engineering and the University of Illinois brand and marketing strategies and guidelines.
Tracking and Reporting:
- Assist in developing success metrics, organize channel performance data, and provide monthly reports on all digital media channels (including websites, emails, social and paid media platforms) to the college and collaborating departments.
- Coordinate and manage data dashboards for college and collaborating departments.
- Coordinate marketing campaigns and activities to ensure activity correlation to impact through appropriate digital tracking and regular reporting.
Other:
- Assume additional duties related to communications to further the mission of Grainger Engineering.
- If needed, hire, train and supervise student interns to assist with communications priorities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations or a closely related field.
- Two (2) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
Preferred Qualifications
- Four or more years of demonstrated marketing experience.
- Demonstrated experience with the development and implementation of marketing and promotional materials.
- Demonstrated experience organizing, interpreting and reporting performance analytics data for digital media platforms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Mastery of grammar, punctuation, and spelling; a high-degree of attention to detail; and error-free clear, effective language.
- Working knowledge of the AP Style Guide.
- Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, strong verbal, and written communication skills. The ideal candidate will display an ability to confidently engage with faculty and staff across organizational tiers frequently and regularly.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into language understandable by a wide audience.
- Ability to analyze and derive insight from data to inform decisions.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, high-paced, team-based environment.
- Ability to work on many projects simultaneously, under a deadline, and be able to function effectively under pressure with frequent interruptions and/or direction changes.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $60,000- $65,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
