International Student and Scholar Services at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for an International Training and Programming Specialist.

Primary Position Function/Summary:

Serve the campus community by creating and providing training and materials to enhance the collective intercultural competency of University of Illinois faculty, staff, and students and by creating and coordinating programming for international students and scholars to enhance their international educational experience.

Statement of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and facilitate campus workshops designed to maximize intercultural understanding and competencies amongst University faculty, staff, scholars, and students.
  • Create and implement social and cross-cultural programs for international students, scholars, and dependents that enhance the international educational experience and meet Department of State mandates and promote international-domestic student /scholar integration.
  • Assist in the organization of federally mandated orientation as part of the new international student experience.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of International Week.
  • Stay abreast of research, best practices, trends in intercultural communication facilitation and related fields. Liaise with Illinois International Global Communications for information, guidance and adherence to policies, procedures and best practice for all communications platforms, including web and social media. Provide data and reports to Illinois International.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year of accumulative education, training and/or work experience within international student or scholar affairs, or cultural experience while studying or working internationally.

Preferred: (Successful candidates will have):

  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing programs and workshops.
  • Demonstrated training or certification in intercultural communication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of University academic and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Ability to run multiple projects simultaneously.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional off-campus, evening, weekend, and/or overnight trips may be necessary as part of programming.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION:

This is a full-time 100% Civil Service Program Coordinator position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. The salary for this position is competitive and based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity within Illinois International. The annual budgeted salary for this position is $48,500.

Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.

Civil Service employees may earn up to 28 days of vacation leave per year, depending on length of service. The University offers 11 annual paid holidays, 12 cumulative sick leave days, plus an additional 13 non-cumulative sick leave days, if needed, each year. Health insurance is available to employees (with the option to purchase coverage for spouse and dependents), required participation in State Universities Retirement System (SURS), with several options for participation in additional retirement plans.
