Financial Aid Systems Developer

Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA)

The Office of Student Financial Aid is accepting applications for a Financial Aid Systems Developer. The position performs the day-to-day activities supporting all data systems, equipment/technology, and reporting functions necessary to support the awarding of over $1 billion in financial aid funds annually and the financial aid programs and services that are available to the nearly 60,000 students attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The Financial Aid Systems Developer is a member of the Systems Unit in the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement, test and maintain financial aid processing in the Banner system.
  • Manage Banner upgrades, bolt-ons, production jobs, testing and development.
  • Ensure systems and data-handling practices comply with legal and regulatory requirements and institutional policies.
  • Evaluate data requests from internal and external staff to produce Banner data reports and solutions.
    • Banner financial aid reporting can be complex, so requires judgment and understanding to produce accurate reports.
  • Maintain inventory of data reporting jobs.
    • There are normally 50-70 jobs produced daily.
  • Design, develop, test and maintain computer and web-based applications, systems, subsystems and databases.
  • Provide technical support for all programs and services provided by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Develop, design, test and maintain automated processing solutions including internal-developed software and databases including SQL/.NET/PHP Applications.
  • Generate and interpret data to respond to internal/external surveys, research studies, and decision-makers.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Assistant Director, Senior Associate Director, or the Executive Director of the Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Create and maintain Banner components to facilitate financial aid processing.
    • Must be able to review and interpret federal/state/institutional regulations, fund agreements, and University policies and translate them into business rules.

Position Qualifications

Required-

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of work experience in IT‐related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
    • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years).
  • Demonstrated experience in data systems administration

Preferred-

  • Experience with application development, systems analysis and design using technologies such as SQL, .NET, PHP and HTML as well as experience with a major RDBMS such as Oracle, MS SQLServer, and/or MySQL.
  • Experience with desktop administration, network and server management, the Ellucian Banner Financial Aid system, and Microsoft Office.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary for this position is $60,000-$65,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
