Job Summary

The Engineer, has primary responsibility for project planning at all levels, from project definition through design. The Engineer, will also be responsible for assisting in the evaluation and establishment of campus standards for project definition, planning, design, and methods of project delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists the client (colleges, departments, etc.) in determining the needs for new projects or renovations.
  • Coordinates and determines the scope and feasibility of projects.
  • Develops scope/program statements for each project based on client and campus needs.
  • Coordinates and determines feasibility or conceptualization of such projects.
  • Determines, compiles, and reconciles project budgets and schedules with input from all pertinent parties for such projects.
  • Assists in the preparation of the scope of professional services required for each project.
  • Participates in the process for the selection of professional services consultants.
  • Attends all planning meetings as the campus representative on assigned projects through Design Development.
  • Develops periodic status reports for assigned projects.
  • Provides engineering design assistance, interpretation, and review to the clients and Project Management.
  • Acts as consultant to Project Management for client requested change orders and professional services consultant amendments during design and construction.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Project Planning. Support the mission, vision, values, and guiding principles of Facilities & Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering focus on civil or structural. Three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in facility planning and management. Current Professional Registration as an Engineer in State of Illinois or ability to obtain a license within 6 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to make decisions regarding the quality / quantity of space needs of academic units.
  • Ability to lead campus clients to prioritize their infrastructure needs.
  • Ability to negotiate solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, concurrently.
  • Ability to develop priorities.
  • Proven track record of successful problem and claim resolution.
  • Ability to communicate well, and delegate and supervise the work of support staff.
  • Ability to use Computer Aided Drafting and facilities management systems.
  • Ability to develop schedules using select scheduling software

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 07/14/2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000-$100,000.
