The College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Pathobiology is seeking an Academic Hourly employee to help support the functions of the Zuckermann laboratory.
Job Summary
Perform bench-top research in the field of immunology and virology, as well as to conduct specialized research support for research projects in the laboratory of Professor Federico Zuckermann.Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect and process pig blood samples including snaring, sedating, collecting bronchoalveolar lavage fluids, and bleeding pigs as well as purification of peripheral blood mononuclear cells by density gradient centrifugation.
- Perform immunological and virological assays including: ELISPOT, ELISA, and virus titrations.
- Perform general virological assays such as virus isolation, plaque purification of viruses and plaque assays, and interferon assays.
- Perform the titration of virus stocks by molecular and cellular methods.
- Other duties as assigned

Allergies to hay, straw and pet dander may cause discomfort due to the location of this position in the College of Veterinary Medicine.Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Virology, Biology, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience performing immunology or virology assays
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science Degree in Virology, Biology, or a related field
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge on the scientific basis and details of how to perform specialized testing required.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Hourly position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/1/2025. The budgeted range for the position is between $26.00 to $32.00 per hour.. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
