Job Summary
Plan and coordinate educational programs for underrepresented students, parents, teachers, and school personnel in PSP targeted areas on behalf of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Responsibilities include developing curricula, preparing relevant presentations and materials; organizing, delivering and/or facilitating (teach) classes, workshops, seminars, and other training services.Duties & Responsibilities -
Program Development and Management:
- Plans and designs curricula for educational programs (project design); researches and defines educational goals, objectives, and methodologies to meet program goals.
- Determines formats and approaches to achieve program objectives; defines needs of target populations; research trends at the national and state level, as appropriate to the position.
- Develop and coordinate professional development for educational programs at targeted schools.
- Manages and facilitates program activities, including classes, training, conferences, seminars, and other special projects within the University of Illinois guidelines.
- Supervises and monitors PSP events, activities, and programs on campus and off-campus.
- Provides students with advisement and associated services, such as, pre-college preparation, academic, and admissions process, best-fit college & career guidance, helps students optimize their high school years, and navigate post-secondary options that fit-academically, socially, and financially.
- Implement and attend school activities.
Elementary/Middle & High School Advising & College Preparation Advising:
- Advises and counsels students regarding academic college preparation, meeting both graduation and college acceptance requirements.
- Counsel students with creating a plan in high school to achieve academically.
- Provides feedback and recommends appropriate action and solutions to individual student's academic and educational needs and abilities.
- Counsel students with discovering their strengths and interests, exploring career alternatives, and finding institutions of higher learning which will meet their interests and strengths.
- Develops curriculum that supports academic achievement, career exploration, college/scholarship searches, assists in understanding the college and financial aid application process, and transition to college.
- Provides instruction (teaches) in college preparation, college/financial aid/scholarship application completion, transition to college workshops, and core curriculum to assist students with college access.
Program Administration:
- Develops and maintains records and databases on participants and program activities.
- Creates promotional marketing materials.
- Remains compliant with system training, procurement, human resources, protection of minors, program guidelines, and any additional University System protocols.
- Research and prepare grant proposals.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Physical Demands
Travel required. Evening and weekend hours required as needed.Required Qualifications -
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- At least 2 years of experience in education and/or admissions process directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, such as worked with underrepresented populations; advising, development, facilitation, implementation of educational programs; knowledge of PSP target area public schools.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications -
- Master's degree
- At least 4 years of experience in education, admissions process and working with underrepresented populations
- Experience with financial aid and scholarships process
- Experience working in PSP targeted areas (Champaign, Chicago, Danville, Decatur, East St. Louis, Rantoul, Springfield, and Urbana).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities -
- Ability to work or travel during evenings and weekends; evenings and weekends will be consecutive and mandatory.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Knowledge of precollege and/or vocational education curricula.
- Program planning and implementation skills.
- Strong organizational skills (time management).
- Ability to manage, design, implement and facilitate (teach) educational programs.
- Possesses Financial Aid knowledge.
- Knowledge of colleges and universities.
- Ability to work with the community, school personnel, parents, and students. Use of technical skills i.e., presentation platforms, social media, Microsoft Office 365, and Adobe Suite.
- Database skills, presentation skills, adaptability, attention to detail, risk management, research skills, digital marketing, customer service skills, and budget-conscious.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary for this position is $50,000 - $58,000 annually. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. This position requires evening and weekend hours and travel within PSP targeted areas (Champaign, Chicago, Danville, Decatur, East St. Louis, Rantoul, Springfield, and Urbana) as needed.
