Laboratory Information System Process Analyst - Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory

Job Summary

Responsible for analyzing, deploying and maintaining production level applications for the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine. Focus on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMs) used at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Emphasis will be placed on analyzing, improving and configuring application level parameters to most efficiently match operational procedures. End user support and training is integral to the position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • End User Support
    • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve end user problems and devise solutions.
    • Analyze, investigate, document and report errors back to vendor via ticketing system
    • Maintain instruments, sVDL and VTH interfaces, and any other newly designed interfaces with LIM system.
    • Database administration including user setup, taxonomy, pricing and lab test setup.
    • Test application patches and new features.
    • Prepare documentation and provide training for end users.
    • Support remote locations that may require occasional travel, approximately once per quarter.
    • Configure and maintain parameters within the LIM system which resides in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
    • Assist support on legacy LIMs running within a UNIX operating system on a central computer server.
    • Emergency on-call, support production critical activities during non-business hours as needed. This may require evening or weekend hours, depending on business cycles of the diagnostic lab.
  • Projects and Continuous Improvement
    • Assist with managing the LIMs data, focusing on process and workflow analysis/improvement, design/create enhanced module functionality, and provide support and training for users.
    • Assist with developing, recommend and implement strategies to bring software operation in line with desired procedural workflow of the diagnostic lab.
    • Assist with analyzing work functions within lab in order to write specifications for new feature enhancement requests.
    • Communicate with vendor to coordinate releases and specifications of new feature enhancements.
    • Deploy instrument and external software interface solutions with LIM system.
    • Assist with SQL query builds, data searches and format reports for use by the lab director, business office, and sections within the VDL.
    • Assis as needed with clean up of data within Prod and Dev environments of LIMs.
    • Assist with maintaining and managing rotation of new computer hardware within VDL and computer purchase.
  • General Technical Support
    • Assist with Q-Pulse SOPs.
  • Other duties related to the VDL IT Team as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories: College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months) Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months) 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with hospital or laboratory information systems (LIS) desired.
• Experience with quality assurance/quality improvement desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High level analytical ability.
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of SQL/MySQL and beginner knowledge of computer programming.
  • Ability to work with clients from varied administrative, academic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds utilizing clear, concise written and oral communications.
  • Ability to provide quick, alternate solutions. Professional and courteous demeanor to achieve optimal level of customer service.
  • Ability to respond quickly with in-person desk-side/lab-side support throughout the lab.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in learning new software systems.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Windows and Excel.
  • A strong interest in continuous learning and the ability to grow professionally, displaying self-directed characteristics and personal initiative.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or biological science.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/21/2025. The budgeted annual salary range for the position is $55,000 to $60,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
