Job Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor mid-level and junior developers, providing guidance and direction to ensure project success and professional growth.
    • Collaborate with senior technical staff to mentor and build the technical expertise of the team
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify professional development opportunities
    • Perform code reviews to promote a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to development standards
  • Assist the Director with budget development and resource metrics
  • Assess complex business needs and develop system requirements to meet those needs
  • Prepare detailed requirements, specifications, test plans, and other documentation required to guide technical development
  • Lead development projects, platform and tool migrations
  • Collaborate with development team leadership to make recommendations for standards, quality assurance, architecture and deployment strategies
  • Work with other Technology Services units and campus to ensure systems meet security standards
  • Evaluate new and emerging technologies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including on-call support as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any one or any combination totaling 5 years (60 months) from the following categories:
    • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT Systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    • Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field, which includes supervisory or lead worker capacity
  • Demonstrated experience working as a team lead on application development projects
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring software developers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising developers
  • Experience with API integration
  • Experience with database design (SQL Server or other)
  • Experience with software version control (such as TFS or Git)
  • Experience with web accessibility tools and compliance
  • Experience with MS Power BI, Tableau or other relevant data visualization tools and methods
  • Experience with University of Illinois data management systems (Banner/EDW, campus authentication, and campus credit card processing systems)
  • Experience with healthcare systems

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and customer service focus
  • Ability to organize and track large numbers of tasks in a complex environment
  • Ability to work in an environment with diverse staff and students
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain appropriate confidentiality

Additional Physical Demands

  • Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
  • Most on-site work will be accomplished in a typical office work environment but may include visits to different customer and meeting locations on campus.
  • May be required to be on call in cases of system failure or development deadlines.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5030 - Information Technology Manager/Administrative Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. This position has a typical salary range of $90-110k. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. This position is eligible for remote/hybrid work. May be required to be on call in cases of system failure or development deadlines. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
