Job Summary - Advocacy & Wellness Coordinator
Serves as a leader in the delivery of survivor/victim support services. As a designated campus Confidential Advisor, serves students, faculty, and staff who have experienced sexual misconduct (sexual assault, sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, stalking, and/or dating/domestic violence), as required by Illinois state law. Serves as an Embedded Confidential Advisor and will be cross placed two days a week at a satellite location.
Duties & Responsibilities - Advocacy & Wellness Coordinator
Advocacy and Support Service Coordination
- Provides and coordinates trauma-informed case management, crisis intervention, and survivor-centered advocacy for student, staff, and faculty survivors of sexual misconduct with regards to all of the legal and administrative options, rights, resources, and referrals for survivors/victims of these forms of harm.
- Provides and navigates survivor rights and options with systems of the University (ex: Office of Student Conflict Resolution, Office of Access and Equity, Residence Life, financial aid, Title IX, Disability Resources and Educational Services, McKinley Health Center, Counseling Center, etc.) and community partners.
- Provides on-site confidential advising services at embedded services locations (i.e. Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center (BNACC), La Casa Cultural Latina, or other partner locations) according to schedule determined by Advocacy and Wellness Coordinator, supervisor, and embedded location staff.
- Serves as an advisor for those choosing to participate in campus disciplinary processes and appeals, when requested.
- Collects summary data to identify trends to better inform sexual misconduct outreach and response efforts.
- Prepares and delivers presentations and written reports, correspondence, proposals, program assessments and updates, email, and other materials for a variety of audiences ensuring compliance with departmental and university guidelines, practices, and principles.
Outreach and Partner Capacity Building
- Develops collaborative working partnerships with students and staff at embedded locations, including supporting student development, attending embedded location staff/student staff meetings as requested, and serving on event specific committees (i.e. cultural history months, Black and Latinx Summit, and congratulatory ceremonies).
- Design and deliver trainings, products/resources, and healing services for faculty, staff, and students across campus.
- Assist other staff with publicizing the services, programs, and events of the Women’s Resources Center through written and electronic means.
- Serves on relevant committees, task forces, and development groups on campus and in the community.
- Consults on the development of current campus policies and procedures related to sexual misconduct in accordance with VAWA, Title IX, Clery Act, and other federal and state guidelines under the direction of the Associate Director, Advocacy.
- Creates educational materials and messaging campaigns (electronic, print, and video) related to sexual misconduct and response, including during notable campus time periods (i.e. Welcome Week, Homecoming, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, etc.) in collaboration with other campus units.
- Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, supervising, and evaluating WRC interns and student staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Implements an assessment and evaluation strategy that informs a culturally responsive approach to confidential advising and support services, including data collection, analysis and reporting.

- Coordinates Women’s Resources Center outreach efforts including responding to program inquiries, organizing workshops, and scheduling facilitator shifts.
- Develops collaborative working partnerships with students and staff at embedded locations, including supporting student development, attending embedded location staff/student staff meetings as requested, and serving on event specific committees (i.e. cultural history months, Black and Latinx Summit, and congratulatory ceremonies).

- Promotes and publicizes activities and services of the Women’s Resources Center on campus, especially to underserved and underrepresented student groups, to engage them in center activities. Evaluates outreach efforts and makes recommendations for improving effectiveness and reach of sexual misconduct response and prevention outreach initiatives.
- Serves on relevant committees, task forces, and development groups on campus and in the community.
- Consults on the development of current campus policies and procedures related to sexual misconduct in accordance with VAWA, Title IX, Clery Act, and other federal and state guidelines.

Staff Supervision, Training and Support
- Supervises student staff (outreach assistants and advocacy interns).
- Manages student staff recruitment, hiring, training, development, payroll, and evaluation.
- Assists with the design and facilitation of student staff orientation and professional development.
- Completes a minimum of 6 hours of ongoing education training annually on issues related to sexual violence to remain a confidential advisor
Minimum Qualifications - Advocacy & Wellness Coordinator
Education:
- Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
- One (1) year of work experience in intervention or peer counseling/advocacy to college students harmed by sexual assault.
- Demonstrated experience providing culturally relevant programs and services, particularly those that have been historically under-served by anti-violence movements.
- Successful completion of a Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training (40 hours minimum) within 90 days after hire. (The unit will cover the cost of the training.)
Preferred Qualifications - Advocacy & Wellness Coordinator
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience integrating theories of intersectionality and cultural relevance in trauma response services.
- Broad knowledge of student development theories and experience working with college students and/or in a college setting.
- Experience developing services and programs to a diverse array of sexual assault survivors.
- Experience developing community and public engagement programs, and public speaking. Successful completion of a standalone Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention Training (40 hours minimum), recognized by the state sexual violence coalition in the candidate's state of practice as an advocate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Advocacy & Wellness Coordinator
- Ability to make independent judgments, apply discretion, maintain confidentiality, and consult when appropriate in complex and difficult situations that require highly individualized planning.
- Broad knowledge of the dynamics of power, privilege, and oppression, gendered violence, and sexual and relationship violence.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including conflict management, assertiveness, consensus/team building, group and relationship violence.
- Organizational and planning skills to achieve progress on multiple, simultaneous projects, to meet deadlines and to maintain a high level of productivity in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications - Assistant Director, Advocacy
Education:
- Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience providing advocacy to survivors of sexual assault in compliance with applicable federal and state legislation.
- Demonstrated experience serving as an advisor for campus disciplinary processes related to sex-based misconduct.
- Experience in assessing advocacy and support procedures and processes.
- Experience with campus and/or community outreach.
- Successful completion of a Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training (40 hours minimum), recognized by the state sexual violence coalition in the state of practice as an advocate.
Preferred Qualifications - Assistant Director, Advocacy
Education:
- Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, gender and women’s students, public/community health, or a related field.
Experience:

Appointment Information
This position is for a single hire at either the Coordinator or Assistant Director level.
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 8/4/2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $48,000 to $53,000 at the Coordinator level and $53,000 to $58,000 at the Assistant Director level.
