The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) invites applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer to support football. In addition, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will play a critical role in supporting the broader strategic priorities of the DIA, and ultimately this position will help foster a life-changing experience for student-athletes.
Since 1892, DIA has operated on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to support its intercollegiate athletic programs. Today, DIA supports 21 intercollegiate varsity sports which compete as a part of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. DIA provides the resources for over 500 student-athletes to participate at the highest levels of their respective sports. This extensive support ecosystem includes over 35 departments employing over 300 dedicated staff members including 80 plus varsity coaches working collaboratively to provide individualized championship-caliber opportunities to our student-athletes, in the classroom, in the competitive arena, and in personal and professional development, to enhance their growth and life preparation. Organizational Relationship
This position will report to the Head Football Athletic Trainer.
Job Summary
Support the Associate Athletics Director, Sports Medicine/Director of Integrated Performance, Head Football Athletic Trainer, and team physicians in providing medical coverage and support for the delivery of an integrated health care system to student athletes participating in the football program.For a complete list of duties and responsibilities, you can view the complete Job Description
Impact in Your First Year
Within 3 months, you will: Become familiar with the vision and priorities of DIA and the sports medicine department.
Within 6 months, you will: Cultivate relationships within DIA and specifically the football program.
By the end of the first year, you will: Attend professional development and networking education sessions to improve self and department.
Minimum Qualifications
Required: Master’s degree required in Athletic Training or related field. Minimum of two years’ experience as a certified athletic trainer required, with experience in a college athletics setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Three to five years of certified athletic training experience in a college athletic setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position is required. • Maintain NATABOC certification and state licensure through regular attendance of continuing education programs and conferences. • Maintain Occupational and Safety Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines for the DIA (Department of Intercollegiate Athletics) Sports Medicine Department • Knowledge of concussion testing and evaluations as it relates to the health of male and female student-athletes and use as needed utilizing clinical judgement in coordination with medical supervision.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 5/5/2025. The minimum salary range for this position is $62,000 - $75,000 and the salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
