Coordinator of ARISE - Engineering Administration

Grainger College of Engineering - Undergraduate Programs Office

The Undergraduate Programs Office in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for a Coordinator of ARISE. The person in this position will advise students in the Academic Redshirt in Science and Engineering (ARISE) program and coordinate academic enrichment and support programs to promote retention. They will also plan and implement ARISE program activities including yield, majors exploration, and mentoring efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Meet with students to monitor academic progress and adjustment to campus, provide resources and support as needed. Keep thorough records of all student contacts.
  • Coordinate ARISE activities including orientation, summer bridge, Spring retreat, and support program activities.
  • Track progress of ARISE students through regular feedback from instructors, tutors, and mentors. Create opportunities to proactively support students.
  • Work with New Student Programs, Marketing and Communication, and the Office of Admissions to coordinate program recruitment and yield efforts.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise undergraduate student staff and volunteers.
  • Perform other, additional academic support/recruitment duties to further the mission of Grainger Engineering, including occasional travel and evening and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A total of two (2) years (24 months) in education, training and/or work experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in advising and/or mentoring college students
  • Demonstrated experience supporting academic and/or professional development programs for students (e.g., undergraduate students and students interested in STEM)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a STEM field
  • Experience working with STEM students
  • Experience working with first-generation, low-income, and/or students considered to be academically at-risk

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel in-state occasionally as requested.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $55,000-63,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
