Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Team Lead or the Human Resource Associate, provide talent support to the assigned matrix team within Illinois Human Resources.

Duties & Responsibilities

Reviewing Applicant Credentials and Determining Scores:

  • Utilize the university HR systems to review applications and determine applicant eligibility
  • Review credentials, and may request supporting documentation to determine the eligibility of applicants seeking admittance into civil service registers
  • Review applications/resumes to determine if applicants meet minimum qualifications for the vacancy per SUCSS specifications, requiring the use of moderate judgment
  • Under established guidelines, determine candidates to be referred to departments for civil service vacancies based on established civil service rules

Manage Data Entry:

  • Enters and maintains data elements in a defined database, as required
  • May develop, maintain, analyze and/or assist with various human resource information system activities and procedures
  • Prepare and create referral in Cornerstone

Internal/External Communication:

  • Respond to applicant or employees' questions or departmental requests under the guidelines provided by Illinois Human Resources
  • Participate in section meetings, and contribute to new policy and procedure development
  • Work closely with unit HR departments to ensure the processing of vacancies

Posting Vacancies:

  • Post and format all civil service (traditional and custom), academic professional, and faculty positions – ensure posting follows correct University and Civil Service rules.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Provide support to Matrix team as needed
  • When appropriate, serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for SUCSS exam revisions

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any one or any combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the following categories:
    course work in human resource administration, business administration or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
    • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
    • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
    • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
  • Progressively more responsible work experience maintaining, monitoring, and/or processing human resource records and reports.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 2136 - Human Resource Officer position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after March 3, 2025. The wage for this position is $50,000. Hybrid work options are available for this position. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
