Job Summary
Assist students in matters of Gies academic policies and procedures, course selection and schedule planning, and preparation for careers in business and assist the Director of Academic Affairs in developing fellow academic advisors.Duties & Responsibilities
- Advising Students
· Provide academic advising and guidance with regard to university, college, and department graduation requirements and academic policies
· Engage in purposeful discussion with students to learn about course performance and interests and assist with the selection of an appropriate major
· Provide advice regarding academic and career options
· Refer students to appropriate academic, career, and student affairs support resources
· Monitor academic progress toward graduation using the appropriate systems; identify and reach out to advisees to support successful academic progress
· Thoroughly document all student contacts using the advising portal system
· Provide summer registration advising and assistance to new first-year and transfer students
· Articulate study abroad courses for undergraduate students
· Coordinate programs and events related to major and career exploration, academic success skills, student transition, and other relevant areas
· Collaborate with Gies Career Services and other College and campus-level units to support students’ academic success and professional development
· Support Office of Undergraduate Affairs initiatives and programs as assigned
· Other duties as assigned - Leadership Responsibilities
· Assist the Director of Academic Affairs with onboarding and mentoring of newly hired Academic Advisors
· Assist the Director of Academic Affairs with identifying opportunities for new and innovative ways to academically support students via the Academic Affairs unit.
· Represent the advising team with the department of Finance as the main contact
· Create training materials, advising tools, and updates from the Finance department for the advising staff.
· Assist the Director of Academic Affairs with identifying professional development opportunities for the advising team
· Coordinate new initiatives and research with the advising team where appropriate - · Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 3 Years of professional experience in the field of higher education working directly with undergraduate students.
Preferred Qualifications
· Masters Degree in higher education or related field
· Direct Academic Advising Experience
· Experience working to build relationships with campus partners
· Experience training and developing materials for a team
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Exceptional communication skills
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position. The expected start date is as soon as possible after February 25, 2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $65,000 to $70,000 annually.
