Technology Services within the Office of the Chief Information Officer is seeking a Human Resources Generalist or Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our team. We provide comprehensive HR support to the campus-level technology organization, which includes over 300 staff members dedicated to advancing the mission and vision of the university. The Technology Services HR team is essential to supporting staff career development, driving organization-wide hiring and workforce planning, and fostering collaborations across campus.

The successful candidate must have a strong focus on customer service, a proactive and collaborative work style, and the ability to utilize their administrative and analytical skills to manage multiple HR functions, providing essential support to both our staff and the organization. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.

Job Summary

Manage a variety of human resource activities and assist with complex human resource issues, escalating as needed for units within the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

Senior: Provide strategic guidance on a variety of human resource activities, and manage complex human resource related issues.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide support on human resource activities, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assist with complex human resource activities and related Office for Access and Equity documentation activities.
  • Senior: Support the full cycle of complex human resource activities and related Office for Access and Equity documentation activities, delegating tasks to Human Resource staff where applicable.
  • Advise on human resource strategies and their development, making recommendations to senior leaders, coordinating across units as needed.
  • Resolve employee requests, providing coaching and support to managers and Human Resource employees.
  • Senior: Resolve complex employee requests, providing coaching and support to managers and Human Resource employees.
  • Assist with unit-level implementation and impact analysis, coordinating with central Human Resources as needed.
  • Advise managers on unit employee-related matters, such as staffing and career development.
  • Assist in analyzing unit, university, and market trends, to support organizational improvement.
  • Senior: Analyze unit, university, and market trends, to support organizational improvement.

HR Generalist Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
  2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.

Senior HR Generalist Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration, or a field closely related to the position.
  2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
  3. Demonstrated work experience with HR-related programs/applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in recruitment, payroll & leave administration, performance management, classification & compensation, and/or other areas of human resources practice.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in a particular direct functional area; apply a broad perspective to improve existing procedures within the direct functional area and, in some cases, the broader functional area.
  • Strong/excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively with others, and strong customer service capability.
  • Possess the ability to work independently with occasional supervision; may be able to pursue strategic initiatives and problem-solve with support from management.
  • Ability to provide general guidance, mentorship, or indirect supervision to colleagues.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closing date. The budgeted salary range for the HR Generalist is $53,000 to $65,000, and the budgeted salary range for the Senior HR Generalist is $65,000 to $75,000. Salary is commensurate with experience. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.

Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus as needed per the University’s Workplace Flexibility policy.
