IFSI is operated as a continuing education and public service activity by the University of Illinois.

PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY:

Under minimal supervision, performs duties designed to keep the facilities clean, in good order, and presentable for both employees and guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mops, sweeps, disinfects, and scrubs floors and other surfaces as required.
  • Cleans, renovates, and renews floor surface finishes.
  • Work with extra help Building Service Workers, Facility Operations Coordinator, and Associate Director to create the most effective methods to maintain facilities cleanliness.
  • Cleans and dusts furniture, tables, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, walls, and related furnishings.
  • Washes and/or cleans window and door glass, washes interior glass and exterior glass, including partitions, framed pictures, and doors.
  • Locks and unlocks doors to buildings, classrooms, offices, etc.
  • Move furniture, supplies, and other materials and assist in the unloading and loading of same to and from trucks as required.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and services lavatories, shower and locker facilities, and rest rooms.
  • Cleans all facilities entrances to keep them free from debris and snow.
  • Collects and places debris and recyclable material removed from buildings in containers for removal.
  • Cleans and waxes furniture.
  • Changes light bulbs and cleans light fixtures, as required.
  • Provides services for maintenance of carpet floor coverings.
  • Operates automatic scrubbers and power sweepers, including rider type, used in connection with building cleaning and also provides operator-type maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Position involves excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to perform duties with numerous interruptions.
  2. Ability to maintain a friendly, professional disposition and be capable of dealing positively with other employees and members of the public.
  3. Highly motivated and able to complete tasks through quality work without constant direct supervision.
  4. Demonstrated record of performance, positive attitude, ability to work well with others.
  5. Ability to work under pressure, with numerous interruptions, always maintaining courtesy, insight, sensitivity and patience.
  6. Ability to complete projects timely in a team environment.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Building Service Worker position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after January 20, 2025. The salary for this role is $40,352. The hours for this position are Sunday - Thursday, 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
