Job Summary
The Molecule Maker Lab Institute (MMLI) is seeking a Visiting Science Education Lead to coordinate and advance a variety of education and outreach initiatives. MMLI is an advanced AI-infused chemistry institute focused on translating cutting-edge research into engaging, student-centered, and standards-aligned learning experiences.Duties & Responsibilities
Curriculum Design and Development:
• Design science curricula aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), ideally for middle and high school levels.
• Incorporate AI and data science into curriculum development, where applicable.
• Collaborate with research faculty to translate cutting-edge research into educational experiences.
• Employ design practices that involve educators and learners in the curriculum development process.
Educational Program Coordination:
• Serve as the primary coordinator for education and outreach initiatives at MMLI.
• Work closely with active research labs to identify research areas that can be translated into outreach and engagement activities.
• Coordinate MMLI programs, including:
• Elementary and middle-grade single-session activities.
• A high school summer camp.
• A two-week high school chemistry curriculum.
• An MMLI-themed escape room.
• Digital tools and campus outreach collaborations.
Collaboration and Engagement:
• Engage with faculty, graduate students, and other experts to advance educational initiatives.
• Advise undergraduate and graduate students who contribute to MMLI’s education and outreach efforts.
• Co-design learning experiences alongside educators, incorporating inquiry-based and hands-on science learning approaches, such as science storylines, OpenSciEd, and phenomena-based learning.
Assessment and Reporting:
• Assess the effectiveness of curriculum and educational programs, using foundational statistics and data analysis.
• Assist with annual reports and periodic status updates for MMLI leadership.
Conferences and Outreach:
• Present MMLI’s educational work at educational conferences via workshops and symposiums.
• Lead the development of manuscripts to communicate the educational advancements of MMLI.

In-person work is required for many MMLI activities.Willingness to travel to conferences and other events to represent MMLI.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S in STEM, design, or education related field. Experience working with K-12 students, teaching, and curriculum development.
Specialty Factors
Current or previous science education licensure or endorsement at the middle or high school level
Preferred Qualifications
B.S or above in Chemistry, AI, Computer Science, Masters in teaching or curriculum development, MFA in Design. Experience with STEM-specific education and outreach, educational data collection and assessment, and team management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of the Next Generation Science Standards, contemporary curriculum, and activity design practices (inquiry-based and student centered learning).
• Ability to effectively use public speaking (particularly youth engagement), formal presentation skills.
• Software experience with office 365 applications.
• Basic statistical analysis skills.
• Experience with graphic design, video editing, and data analysis software.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. This position may become non-visiting regular at a later date, based on availability of funds. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 10/21/2024. The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $75,000 to 90,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
