The Business Analyst is an important member of the AITS Decision Support team. The primary responsibility for the team is to deliver data analytics and business intelligence solutions that enable university decision makers to gain actionable insights. The Business Analyst contributes by understanding the functional business needs of the University community. Business intelligence requirements are then translated into specifications for product features and data elements. The Business Analyst will test and validate developed solutions to ensure they meet requirements and will provide approval to deliver the final product. Understanding all functional areas (i.e., Student, Human Resources, and Finance data) is essential for the Business Analyst to support the business and reporting needs of the diverse University community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with development and operations teams to test and document enhancements and updates to existing business intelligence products.
  2. Collect requirements from university personnel to comprehend and document intricate business needs, ensuring clarity and comprehensibility of all requirements.
  3. Analyze and document business rules and processes for translation into new data elements within the data warehouse.
  4. Engage with the project team during the analysis and design phases by interpreting and analyzing the content of business requirements.
  5. Develop and execute test plans and test scripts to ensure the completeness and accuracy of requirements.
  6. Employ sound judgment and knowledge of common reporting needs and Decision Support capabilities to align customer needs with potential business intelligence solutions.
  7. Understand key concepts in data warehousing and business intelligence solutions.
  8. Research and apply best practices for requirements discovery and documentation.
  9. Perform other duties and responsibilities appropriate for a Business Analyst position.

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    • College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
  3. -30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)

    -Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)

    -90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)

    -Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

    1. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
    2. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.

    *A minimum of two years of experience in gathering functional requirements or data access needs for large projects aimed at designing information systems, particularly data warehouses or decision support systems.


  1. At least two years of hands-on experience in the following areas: requirements analysis, facilitation, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to multi-task within a team-oriented environment.
  2. Extensive experience in the complete life cycle of the development process, including requirements definition, prototyping, quality assurance testing, and implementation.
  3. Experience as a team member or lead on Business Intelligence projects, including developing Use Cases, test scripts, and experience with performance and metrics reporting systems.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  1. Strong writing skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas simply.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency in effectively communicating and documenting business needs in both technical and non-technical terminology for colleagues and clients at various skill levels.
  3. Proficiency in SQL, OLAP development, enterprise reporting systems (e.g., SAP Business Objects), MS Office applications, and knowledge of Data Warehousing initiatives, Decision Support Systems, and functional data areas in a higher education environment.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a 100% Full Time Civil Service IT Technical Associate position. The expected start date is 3/17/2025. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.

The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000.00 - 95,000.00. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
