About the Role
EPE is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to join the growing finance team. The ideal candidate will support the Controller in overseeing the company’s financial operations for US and offshore entities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting and reporting activities. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Conduct financial analysis and provide actionable insights to support decision-making. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting.
- Accounting Operations:Oversee accounting activities, including accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll. Support the month-end close process, including the reconciliation and review process with staff accountants. Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Compliance and Audit:Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies. Assist with internal and external audits, including preparing necessary documentation. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and legal requirements.
- Systems and Process Improvement:Identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Support ERP or accounting system upgrades and implementations.
- Leadership and Development:Mentor and supervise an accounting team of 3-4 staff, providing training and guidance as needed. Foster a collaborative and productive work environment within the finance team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, project accounting principles and a working knowledge of ASC 606.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, BQE CORE or similar ERP systems).
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preffered Qualifications:
- Experience in engineering or consulting industries.
- Public accounting experience, preferably Big 4.
- Experience with foreign subsidiaries or multi-entity accounting (Canadian experience is a plus).
- Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives.
Location: This position will be located in Champaign, IL
Travel: Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
