The University of Illinois Foundation (Foundation) is the official fundraising and private gift-receiving organization of the University of Illinois (University). It works closely with alumni and friends, faculty and staff, corporations and foundations, as well as campus development professionals to create fundraising programs and opportunities that benefit the University.
The Data Governance Senior Analyst is a key role in bridging the gap between business needs and technical execution in support of the Foundation’s data governance strategy. This position requires technical knowledge of data and analytics, business process, and communication skills to ensure data governance initiatives are effectively scoped, implemented, and adopted across the organization.
The Senior Analyst will work closely with internal and external teams, including data stewards, IT professionals, and leadership—to gather and translate requirements, support configuration of Data Governance tools and external data integration, and promote best practices in data governance operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a liaison between business and technical teams, leading discussions to gather, define, and document data governance requirements from stakeholders across the organization.
- Leverage deep understanding of both business processes and data governance tools to translate functional needs into effective technical solutions.
- Collaborate closely with data governance leadership, including Director, Managers, and Analysts, to support the development and execution of governance initiatives.
- Support implementation and configuration of Purview features, including data cataloging, lineage, workflows, and policy enforcement, ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Analyze existing data governance processes to identify gaps, recommend improvements, and contribute to the development of scalable governance frameworks and standards.
- Facilitate Data Governance committee meetings, capture decisions made and communicate to all stakeholders. Ability to influence as a technical expert in data governance products.
- Ensure stakeholder alignment and engagement by effectively communicating progress, collecting feedback, and facilitating training or onboarding sessions related to data governance tools and practices.
- Provide mentorship, training and technical guidance to junior-level team members, including interns.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in business analysis, data governance, or enterprise data management roles.
- Hands-on experience with data governance platforms, particularly Microsoft Purview or a similar tool.
- Strong understanding of business process modeling and requirements gathering techniques.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
- Technical ability in writing SQL code and Python scripts is required.
PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or foundation environments.
- Experience working with CRM systems and Microsoft Fabric
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or similar.
- Understanding of data privacy and regulatory requirements (e.g., FERPA, GDPR, HIPAA).
- Ability to build reports and dashboards for diverse stakeholders.

The starting salary range for this position is projected to be $91,000 - $106,000 per year. While our job postings include salary ranges, your compensation will be based on your specific experience and qualifications—we're not limited by these posted ranges.
