The School of Chemical Sciences seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Inventory Clerk. The School of Chemical Sciences acts as the service unit for the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, providing common services such as student advising, research service facilities, business office services, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and the Chemical Storeroom.Job Summary
Assist the School of Chemical Sciences (SCS) Safety and Inventory Coordinator in maintaining the SCS Inventory Systems, including Moveable Building Inventory and Chemical Tracking Inventory. The duties of this position will also include maintenance of variety of databases involving SCS/Campus room assignments and safety items such as laboratory safety audits, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the inventory and maintenance of the SCS Moveable Equipment Inventory.
- Assist in the inventory and maintaining the SCS Chemical Tracking System.
- Assist in maintaining the SCS/Campus Space plan database. This includes reviewing plans and obtaining correct coding and room numbers for all SCS designated buildings.
- Assist the SCS Safety and Inventory Coordinator in maintaining the SCS Safety Audits and Lab information database. Assist the SCS Safety and Inventory Coordinator with the maintenance of additional databases related to inventory as needed.
- Provide needed assistance in performing basic maintenance within the work order database involving preventive maintenance, including SCS Reaction system.
- Provide needed assistance in notification to building occupants.
- Provide needed assistance in performing basic safety duties for building occupants.
- Other duties as assigned, to further the mission of the Department.
Additional Physical Demands
This is largely a physical role involving frequent moves of equipment weighing up to 75 pounds across all four School of Chemical Sciences buildings.Occasional work may take place in dirty or small spaces, such as closets.This position requires the employee to travel outside between buildings to complete tasks. Therefore, there may be frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of inventory procedures.
- Knowledge of coding, filing, and record keeping.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic and the ability to interpret and solve problems of a mathematical nature.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill and ability in interpretation of SCS and Campus policies and procedures which include analysis.
- Ability to keep records accurately.
- Ability to recognize equipment generally used by the department.
- Ability to work safely in a chemical laboratory setting.
- Ability to work while wearing the appropriate PPE. The ability to lift and move inventory of 75 lbs.
- Must have computer knowledge and be able to navigate multiple computer applications.
- Ability to work with and around chemicals. Knowledge of proper use of PPE.
- Ability to require the proper training and the willingness to gain knowledge in proper chemical handling.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0768 - Inventory Clerk position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The
salary for this position is set by a collective bargaining agreement and the
rate for the position is $16.89/hour.
