Graphic Design Specialist

Education Administration

Job Summary

Provide graphic design support to the College of Education under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Marketing and Communications.

Duties & Responsibilities

DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT:

·         Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Marketing & Communications, prepare original designs for print and digital communications, including ad campaigns, emails, social media, newsletters, and recruitment and reputation building materials, e.g., brochures, program, and giveaways.

·         Assist with establishing and maintaining brand guidelines.

·         Assist with the evaluation of College of Education units’ communication materials to assure compliance with College and Illinois brand.

·         Assist in translating marketing objectives into create strategies and executing designs and plans for all print and digital media, including websites.

·         Assist with production and coordination of multimedia projects.

·         Coordinate and perform as necessary, photographic assignments for publications, television/video, displays, etc.

·         Serve as a consultant to faculty and staff on problems of a design nature.

 

STRATEGIC PLANNING / ADMINISTRATION:

         Coordinate with College of Education units to determine the most efficient and economical means of producing publications.

         Serve as liaison with outside vendors including press and pre-press operators, printers, and suppliers.

         Obtain estimates and procedural information for all jobs, which require outside services and/or materials.

         Assist with monitoring expenditures in the graphics area and assist supervisor in developing fiscal year budget requests.

         Maintain projects status’ on AirTable and organize completed projects on BOX.

 

WEB DESIGN:

·         Design templates and web structures that create a positive and efficient user experience.

·         Serve as a consultant to faculty and staff on problems of a design nature.

·         Select, size, and upload images for use on the College of Education’s website.

Minimum Qualifications

Per SUCSS Class Specification Any one or any combination that equals thirty-six (36) months from the categories below1: credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school coursework that would lead to a major in graphic/visual arts communication and/or design 60 semester hours equals 12 months 90 semester hours equals 24 months 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 36 months work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design Twenty-four (24) months of graphic design experience comparable to that performed at the Graphic Designer Associate level of this series

Preferred Qualifications

·         MFA in graphic design

·         Five years of professional work experience in marketing, branding, or a related profession.

·         Five years of graphic design or a closely related field and a portfolio demonstrating competency.

·         Experience can be concurrent.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

·         Understanding of best practices in both digital and print production.

·         Awareness of current trends in design and production.

·         Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

·         Familiarity and comfort designing for web with an understanding of UX.

·         Knowledge of website content management systems.

·         Familiarity with video production and editing. • Basic photography knowledge.

·         Strong communications skills and the ability to work as part of a professional team.

·         Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students and staff.

·         Ability to multi-task by managing multiple projects simultaneously and meet concurrent deadlines.

·         Excellent problem solving, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills.

·         Excellent project and time management, team building and conflict resolution skills, as well as the ability to work cooperatively with all constituents of the College of Education.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Graphic Designer position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after closing. Salary is commensurate with experience.
