Job Summary
This research scientist will work with a variety of optical microscopes, including confocal, Slide scanners, widefield, and others; as well as scanning probe microscopes and Raman microscopes. They will train new users of the Core Facilities on proper use, as well as collaborate with researchers.Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide quality "hands-on" training to new users of the Core Facilities' instruments.
- Collaborate with researchers to plan experiments and develop unique protocols, methods, or capabilities.
- Support researchers using the Core's confocal Raman microscope
- Perform standard and preventative maintenance on the Core's optical microscopes to reduce or prevent downtime for repairs to equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Life Sciences field. Experience training researchers to use confocal microscopes, Raman Microscopes, scanning probe microscopes, and preparing scientific samples for microscopy research. Must have ability to work with Ph.D.-level scientists courteously and professionally.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in advanced optical microscopy, and experience handling or disposing of biohazardous materials.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to train scientists to use state of the art scientific imaging instrumentation.
- Ability to use Zen Blue and Zen Black software.
- Ability to use 3D rendering and segmentation software, such as Amira.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 12/1/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
